Without Spending a Oil Sheiks Petrol allowance, How high and how much would I be looking at to Lift the XL-7. Is it true that 40mm is as high as I can go before I need driveshaft brackets and all that... I mean I would like the extra height but don't exactly want to go to all the trouble of getting the CV's replaced.. Just get as high as I can without the messy complications..
Can someone explain Spring lift as this has been mentioned to me as an option and would do the job ? but is it legal ??
Could I get it lifted by a specialist for say $1200 ????
as a Side note.. I am loving the New Wild Peak All Terrains... Aggressive when needed.. quiet when on the Highway... Best Combination of both worlds !

A spring lift is when you replace the springs with taller/stiffer springs, and preferably, also the shocks & struts with longer ones - as far as I know it's legal - I don't know what Australian pricing is like, but in the US you could get it fully kitted out with OME all around for under USD$900 + installation (or do it yourself - it's not that difficult, shouldn't take more than a day, can be done in your driveway using a couple of jacks, jack stands, & basic hand tools - spring compressor optional) and I'd like to believe if you explore the Australian market, you can probably do it with other brands (Dobinson, Ironman, King) for less.
Search - and bear in mind an XL-7 is essentially a stretch GV, so the same concepts apply - only you can determine how high, and how high will determine how much.
I now pass you over to the locals for the debate on what's best.

Yes suspension lift is legal, but you can only have 50mm and a 25mm lift from tyres(2" bigger in diameter). Not sure about spacers but when i got my rwc they didnt ping me for spacers so must b legal?
I ran 2" lift without diff drops for ages and had no problems with cvs. Now that I have them in(upgrading to 3" springs) my cvs sit almost flat with 2" lift. So no you don't need them but if you can afford them get them incase you want to pop spring spacers in or taller springs down the track.
Everyone loves their dobinson suspension kit, I belive its around $900 for springs, struts nd shocks.
Tough dog has an XL7 40mm lift kit which will set you back around $1400 :/ thats springs shocks and struts. Most expensive is the struts which are $700 a pair O.O
Ironman 40mm kit will set you back $880. Again springs shock and struts.
I personally run the Ironman struts. Seem to be fine, they're a bit softer than my rear holden camira shocks.
If you want to save yourself some money, give it a go your self. I would start on the front (harder) then hit the rear (15min job each side). If you cant get the front take it down to a shop. Rear is a lot easier, undo top shock bolts, jack it up, put it on stands, drop the jack, undo bottom shock bolts and remove the shocks, having someone to help here makes it easier, get someone to stand on the drum brake and push it down until the coil pops out (will need to do the same for getting the lifted coil back on). Put new coils in and pop the new shocks on (do bottom bolt first then jack it up and guide the top into the hole.

So what are the Opinions on Spring Spacers... I mean I have seen a 30mm kit for the XL7 for around the $150 point.

it's going to ride like a bag of dicks with just coil spacers, running stock shocks you'll end up with virtually zero down travel.

Definetly replace the springs if they're still the originals, the ride and handling improves alot over stock. If you do add spacers, contact Bruce. He makes them and has great fast service

So If I cannot afford to lift it, Should I just protect it and install bash plates on everything until I can afford to lift it properly ?

Coil spacers, longer shocks and strut spacers. Will cost a few hundred bucks total and will give you the lift you want. Get the spacers from Bruce, commodore shocks (or similar) from supercheap/repco and the strut spacers from bits4vits/low range/wherever.
Later on down the line when you have more cash you can swap out the strut spacers for longer struts, and the coil spacers for longer springs if you feel the need.
