Hi all,

Does anyone live near darwin that can help me fix my jimny gearbox not rediculously expensively.... the cost of people to even look at it up here is crazy I use to fix my sierra with a friend, but have been too scared to start on the 2006 Jimny without advice.
Basically... 20 hours on arnham land road vibrations in 4th gear has left my 4th gear selecter popping out when I accelerate
there is a bit of looseness in the gears but not too much, and the 4th gear (the one that jumps out) is tighter than the others when you wiggle it.
any advice is appreciated I'm running out of options (searched for replacement gearbox even and everyone seems out)...
OR if this fails does anyone have a 2006 Jimny vvt gearbox (not the 4wd one) in good working order...

how many kms?
i would guess at a stab a synchro has worn out.

also, is it happening when the vehicle is cold, operating temp, or all the time,
what im getting at is, if its been a long time since the oil has been changed in the box, it could be shagged and not lubricating once hot,
also being out arnhem land, i assume you took it for a dip in a few creek crossings? may have water in the oil which wont be helping.
if you can get it to my workshop at 9am on the dot, saturday, i can check a few things and eliminate a few potential problems.

does this style of gearbox have the same bush in the shifter as the sierra's

I would be looking at the cheaper items before thinking box overhaul.

Redline Shockproof oil is bloody good stuff but a bit dear.
Castrol VMX80 is the standard stuff.

Yes, drain fully then refill.

If I went the shockproof would I go 75-90?
there seems to be no 75-85 (recommended??)

OK back to the Drawing board...
caught up with a fellow Zooker in Darwin and he suggests its nothing simple, note these simptoms...:
1. 4th gear pops out (mainly when accellerating)
2. gears not sloppy (or not sloppier then usual for Jimny)
3. gear actually feels tighter in 4th before popping out
4. doesn't crunch into gears
5. occured by staying in 4 gear for 12 hours on shakey arnhamland road
6. OIL LEAK FROM REAR SEAL (can't believe I missed this)

fellow zooker (thanks Joel) after looking at it suggests sinchro or (apparently more likely cos no crunching) something like the bush and spring that holds the gear in place, so...

is there ANYONE in darwin area that can help me fix this without me having to morgage the house I don't have... or
is there ANYONE in the country that has a vvt gearbox, refurbished or used

Hi,

Wish I could say I have some expertise to offer but my mech skills are limited to say the least. Anyhow I coincidentally also have a 2006 jimny that may require gearbox pulled soon in Darwin pending on what I can discover about my issue (described here: "http://auszookers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=40572").

Are you still looking to get gearbox work done in Darwin? If I hear/discover anyone doing this for a good price I will let you know.
