the only damage it will do is to your clutch and drivability in general... (ie: constantly changing down gears to hold your speed).

On road it's fine, bit sucky between 4th-5th but that's it.
Off road... means lots of clutch dumps, and hitting things with speed. In some ways its more fun and challenging, in other ways it sucks hard.

Which 6.5 gears did you have? Lifetime warranty or did you buy second hand (if so what did you pay)?
What were you doing when they failed, and how did they fail?

What were you doing when they failed, and how did they fail? they were low range off road on the center gear there is 2 needle bearings and there should be a spacer between them i bought the car with them installed by a quanta s engineer (there's a problem) he had all receipts and stuff i was at mundaring with you guys 2 years ago when one of the needles in the bearing broke alien was there and so was mcdaddy i live in yanchep so by the time i had got home all the needles in one bearing were busted and about half the teeth in the center gear were missing one side and there was a hell of a whirling sound coming from transfercase got home removed transcase and swapped with another one (stock gears) put stock wheels on and havn't bother going back up till now

I haven't been very impressed with the quality of the trail gear gear sets I've installed. I've been very happy with the trail tough gears I've installed.
Steve.

The worst thing I've ever done to a Suzuki is put 30s on with no gearing. It was unbelievably shit on the road. Offroad it wasn't that bad, Sierra gearing is shit-tastic to start of with anyway. Even with 26s it was terrible IMO.
There's a hill called "2nd gear hill" here. With 26s it'd lose 6-8 km/h up it, with 30s it'd lose 25-30km/h. I did have a head gasket problem that I think got worse around the time I put the 30s on put I'm not sure it ever actually made a difference. It was very minor.
That was on a 1l Sierra.

hi sidewys, what did you mean by this? do people often change the gearing with standard 26" tyres? I've got no experience at all other than standard engine gearing and tyres, so perhaps i dont know what im missing with better gearing.

I ran 6.5's on stock tyres/diffs and it was crap on the highway (80km max ) but wicked offroad. If you run 4.16's with stock sized tyres you will have a small reduction on road which is the same as putting a 1ltr transfer in a 1.3. However, there is a very generous reduction in low. If i was running 26's for whatever reason permanently, I would have 4.16's.

i ran 6.4's with stockies on for DD, and put 32" on for wheeling. Later went to 31s as full time tyre. Since my xfer decided to eat itself on the highway, i was DD with 31s on stock gears. I havent wheeled with it, as my friend used to wheel his zook on 31s with stock gears. That car had a hard life. Id rather not do that to mine.
As per finding new gears... well I haven't fully decided yet. The decision/money will be later I think, once im annoyed enough with my setup to be.
Be careful btw Second hand gears are stupidly overpriced. IMO should be $150-200 max You are buying something with unknown kms on it, assembled by an unknown, in unknown serviceable condition, and people expect you to pay near new prices. Would be like paying new ford falcon ticket price for possibly a 7 year old taxi.

I think $150-$200 is a bit too cheap a price for secound hand gears fitted in a tcase,I understand people might ask a bit.....but I bought 4:9.1 gears then got them fitted cheap it still cost me about $750 in total if I ever sold it they wouldn't be for $200

if opened and inspected and didnt require a rebuild, and in brandspanking condition its worth more imo, but still not near new prices.
Unopened and trying to sell Its a gamble buying them second hand unopened, you dont know what level of wear and tear on thrust washers, inside the counter, on the countershaft etc, unless you open it up, and you dont know who assembled it (if they did it right or removed too much material in the case of 6.5s etc). Even if you paid $200, and opened it up, found out you need to replace parts/rebuild, add labour, and you bought second hand stuff that now owes you near new prices, with no warranty. Does that seem logical? I know you paid for the case and gears and your emotional and financially vested in it. But for someone looking to fork over hard earned on a gamble, is it worth the risk to them?
So back to your xfer case $750 installed... you want maybe 1/2 that, so $375, and person buying is possibly up for rebuild $200, at the very least should replace the thrust washers and make sure its shimmed correctly etc Total is $400 to $575 not including labour. Its $525 new, its verging on getting close to buying new gears with warranty etc.
$150-200 is a bit harsh, but in my opinion for me to gamble on something, there has to be something worth winning.

Some of you guys need to grow a pair Stock gearing and 31's on road is driveable and wont break anything if you are planning on getting gearing eventually anyway. Off road you are very limited to mostly flat tracks and hard beaches unfortunately, but once again if youre planning on upgrading eventually anyway its doable. Aftermarket gearing was limited to $1000+ Calmini gears only 6 or so years ago so yes I have wheeled with 31's on stock gearing for about 12 months.

You can drive on road. (My car currently has no gearing.) But it sucks. Its shit. I hate driving the thing with no gearing. Offroad, it sucks even more.

Skip to about 3:15 http://s121.photobucket.com/user/want33 ... 4.mp4.htmlso you didnt break anything it was just difficult with bigger load on the clutch?? No breakages that day but everytime I drove it I expected something to go bang. Without gearing you have no choice but to go FAST and this is a good way to break stuff as well as jumping or bouncing off line.

It also depends who your buying the gear from too. I've Installed over 6 sets and never had one go bang.
But from certain people I wouldn't pay for...
