Yeah man! so stoked! now off to get rego and then let the MOds begin!! haha i did a 0-100 time too and was about 12-13sec which is pretty good i reckon! Armsup

just hope they don't do an engine number check. i'd bung the plastic 2.0 V6 intake cover back on for lol'z. :wink:

haha well they will do the check BUT the place im taking it to knows of my conversion/engine swap and they don't care really. Its pretty much the same engine anyway. Not like i dropped a v8 in it? I think they are just going to neglect the "size" and just put a change of engine form in with the new engine number and be done with it.

idk see how we go...

are you coil packs 2 or 3 wire? you can order replacement 3 wire ones from repco pretty cheap these days, 2 wire ones aren't that common.

2 Wire haha i think they are on ebay for $28 or something? Better than 100+ like my old skyline had...

Thanks see how i go. The ones i thought were 3 pin (go figure lol) can you convert from 2pin to 3 pin?? should have a look.... i have the H27 cam angle sensor which i think is one of the bits you need for it to work...hmm

Hope your rego goes well. I thought the maximum increase you can do on an engine is 25%? Like 2.0L to 2.5L.

Like I said. Fill out the numbers and don't mention the size. Hopefully it goes through. And you can go bigger but you need engineering approval. It's stupid really but ill be fine. It's now developed a bit if a knock after driving for 20km so could be up the shit any way. If it is I'm gonna burn it! :)

It's theoretically possible - 2-pin coil packs are switched by an igniter module on the firewall, 3-pin coil packs have the igniter transistor internally - looking at the wiring diagram the igniter is just six transistors - the theory says that the physical location of the transistor doesn't matter, you just need to splice the 3-wire harness in to connect the igniter drive from the ECU to the coil pack instead of the igniter module - the potential show stopper is that there is a noise filter which may or may not provide "ignition event feedback" to the ECU, on the early 4 cyl Vitaras, if the noise filter failed, the ECU would shutdown the injectors when it didn't see a spark, I've not heard of that happening with the V6s, so either the ECU doesn't use the feedback, or the noise filters are more reliable.

I'm not aware of any of the newer (post 2000ish) ECUs having an Ignition Fail Safe signal. I wouldn't rely on the symbols in the wiring diagram, if its a transistor then it will have a lot of protection wrapped around it. Have a look at an IGBT and an Ignition IGBT and you will see the difference, it will be a similar set up with a BJT or Darlington.

Hey MacDaddy. Goes great. I have a horrible feeling that it has a small end bearing problem but that has nothing to do with the conversion. I want to put headers and zorst but just finishing my house off at the moment so car has to wait. But yes, it goes awesome and pretty easy conversion.

Ok so I’ve just read this whole thread, I’m confused why can’t the h25/27a intake manifold and throttle be used ?

What’s different about them for h20a?

I’m running a haltec ecu so could I use them as much I’m not relying on the standard computer?

I'm too lazy to go through the entire thread, but, generally speaking, if you're using an aftermarket ECU, you should be able to use whatever intake manifold & throttle body you can bolt to the engine - you're the one who will have to work out how to install & wire whatever sensors etc., are needed and program the ECU to work with them.

To answer the question on what's different - a bunch of stuff - like the type & location of the MAF sensor, the IAC valve - that become important when used with the OEM ECU.
