Hey guys, just got hold of a front steel diff for my GV. Now I have the 4.8 centres in it atm but am looking at putting bigger tyres on it, So am chasing down some 5.12's. Have found a pair but he is asking $800 for em. Not sure if this is reasonable or not haha. Any help would be great

Don't think any of the GV's came with 5.12s except the SWB, but not sure if they came with steel diffs :/ Will be easier to find them out of a vitara anyway. Have a browse through here. Has what came with what. viewtopic.php?f=17&t=6614You're looking for a 92-98 EFI 1.6 either 5 speed man or 4 speed auto in 2 or 4 door. Or a 1.6l manual CARBY 2 door

Thought that might be the case. So swap the ring and pinion into gv steel 3rd member and carrier? Or can the alloy take a beating in steel housing? Thanks for quick replies

Haha new question guys. Can I buy a 4.8 ratio already in steel 3rd member so it's a bolt over swap and give rowdee my current steel bits so only one of our cars has to go into diff place?

i think you might find a 4.8 in a steel diff out of a very late model GV v6 auto... most were alloy from memory, or are the GV v6 auto's 4.6?

you'll need the pinion mount too if you find one from a late model GV

Not 100% sure what that part is but I thought it would come already on a center?

Duebakka wrote: http://nbs4x4club.com/forum/index.php?topic=14178.20;wap2 Scroll down a bit but info is there for anyone else doin what I'm doing. I'm certain that info isn't 100% correct, Joe's SWB auto GV had 4.8's in an alloy front not 5.12's as listed below: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7632&hilit=gv+swb&start=1260i'm sure that list of ratio's has been posted here before. Quote: 1.6 GV man + auto = 5.125 2.0 4cl GV Auto = 5.125 Alloy diff 2.0 4cly GV Manual = 4.8 Alloy diff 2.5 V6 GV Auto = 4.8 Steel diff after 2003 2.5 V6 GV Manual = 4.3 Steel diff
if it's anything like the SV's the manual 2.0 4cyl would have 4.6's & the auto 4.8

Ok so hopefully I haven't missed anything otherwise I'm a terrible researcher haha but can anyone confirm I have all the parts needed to swap 4.8 to 5.125 in rowdee's car. I have sourced these: Complete steel diff assembly 5.125 center And pinion mount
Once the diff guy has changed the ratios and put the diff together Is it just a matter of bolting it in? Thank you
