the axle is FINE i have called transport and asked already.

I think there has been more than one person try and point things out in this thread but you won't take advise from people that do it for a living.

I don't think any state in Australia allows for things to not comply with the correct VSB

my thoughts are to build the trailer as strong as possible, with a lot of overkill. i hate the idea of having to leave the trailer on the side of a track somewhere because something bent or broke. my entire trailer is 50*50*3mm shs, with a 75*50*3 rhs draw bar. but my trailer is intended to be offroaded in the outback NT regularly. i would be concerned that 50*50*5mm angle wouldnt hold up over time for where i would be taking it. i have no idea where you'll be taking yours :)

if you use a new draw bar dont they class it as a new trailer? In qld there is no inspection for trailers that are umder 750kg.

so apparently my update didn't post? silly iphone
spoke to inspector.
no problems with welded stubs in the axel as long as its the correct size RHS (and it is) he said it was even better that i had plug welded it.
draw bar will have to be replaced. i could legally leave it as is but i want to make it stronger so i will be replacing it with 50x75x3Rhs and that is fine in transports eyes.
the trailer will now need to sit a full road worthy (to receive new vin), but the inspector sad "looking at these pics i cant see many issues as long as i continue as i have been"

Moral of the story, Build from scratch to start with and don't believe everything you read on the internet

It's not that huge it's deal! + I get to go to a single drawbar so that's sweet with me!
Used the new winch on the Jimmy to.flip it over!
On the to do list is..
Weld all the underside
Drawbar obviously 100x100x4 I think
Add another leaf and a bigger helper to the spring packs and paint the bottom!

I'll be doing similar to lengthen my draw bar next year.
For its next reincarnation.

Some more

Rear legs.. loving these, worth the extra coin i think!
Image

This is a level for the drawbar, should make set up quite easy
Image

New spring packs!
well old ones, with a much longer/heavyer last leaf and a big fat helper. they feel a little soft for a inch or so then pick up quite hard.
Image

a bit more of a over view.. still need to get some washers and spring washers for things before i can tighten it all up.. but getting somewhere
Image

over the next few days..
tie down points for jerry cans,
hinges for tailgate
then a nice coat of olive drab...

then to go is only, mount the tent down, and tailgate kitchen! i can nearly feel the relaxation on the first trip!

Jerry can mounts
i was putting off this job.. but it was simple once i had set my mind on how i was going to do it
Image

This little thing is worth its weight in gold!
switchable magnet.. just makes jobs like this (hinge mount) so simple!
Image

and FINALLY its painted
Olive drab with a roller of course!
Image

Still to go...
Flooring..
mount tent
tailgate kitchen.

Make sure you put something soft like some rubber or something underneath and where ever anything touches the jerry can, those ones will rub off the paint, rust and leak in no time if they aren't on something soft. Also watch out of the thin bit of metal joining the lid to the container as that will bend easily and not line up right. You can cut that and it will seal no problems though. Looking good!

with super glue and fairy dust... how do you think lol with a weld?? and a plug weld..
its 50x50x5 and has been approved for usage.
honestly in a trailer with a loaded weight of 750kg it will never be a issue. its not like its 1.5mm wall or anything

pezz wrote:

around 150kg to go. however we have had 300kg in the trailer (me and 2 big mates stood on the frame) and the shackles were still fine no more angle than what they have now. the springs are almost flat atm.

i ditched the idea of the plastic because of the price.
ally was less than half ($120 for 2 sheets at capril atm)
they didnt have any dull checker so i had to go for the "BLING" stuff... wont be a issue as it should be under a tent all the time..
there is a anderson plug on the drawbar that has wiring that go's up to the rear of the trailer (you can see the cable hanging out) that will go up into the tailgate, into a fuese box then will go out to
Lighting... LED's Shit load's of them
extra Anderson plug for the fridge when its used with the camp kitchen
6x usb ports
a set of usb powered speakers and a 3.5mm jack so i can just run the tunes off my phone or what ever.

The jimmy now runs 2batterys with a manual isolater, the second battery has the line to power the trailer. this way when we set up camp we can simply switch off the main battery, use the second battery (320cc commodore unit) all night to run the camp stuff, then in the morning or when we leave camp i can start the jimny, then re-connect the isolater and go on our way, the second bat will charge whilst were driving!

Tailgate. .
Yeah today was fun.
Still a fair bit to do but it's getting there.

Latch. Still nead to run a foam seal around tge gate. That will make it water proof and stop rattles

Image

Started to work on layout. The storage bins are $5 kmart units :)
Image

Not a huge storage loss
Image

Note the storage/cooker section bolts in. So can be removed when trailer is used as a trailer not just a camper
Image

All for now. Will pull it down tomorrow, weld, paint and add the ally panels.
Also need to change gas cooker to make gas outlet on other side and add a gas strut.
