Hi guys...

I'm looking at a pretty cheap / mediocre sound system for my 06 Jimny. Nothing to fancy. I need some clarification on buying the right gear as it's the first audio mods i have done to a car... Can you guys advice on whether this stuff is compatible with the 06 Jimny?

2x 4" speakers - http://www.jbhifi.com.au/car-sound-gps- ... sku-91044/ (will these fit the two front side stock speaker slots?

Double din head unit - http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_240 ... 822UA.html (will this fit in where the stock head unit left?)

Also, I need some advice on a 'cheaper' and 'amp with sub' (together) that would hopefully be small enough to go under the drivers seat. Anybody have any recommendations?

Cheers. :)

Yep. You can make them fit.

The Jimny DIN hole is not a standard shape. You may be able to mould the surround you get with teh head unit to make it look neat.

Any 'cheap' sub is not going to be great. Don't br fooled by PMPO figures of 1000W and the likes. The only real way to compare is with RMS values.

JB has a JL and a Kicker (sub and box only). I'd start with those. if you get a CHEAP sub with amp built in, it will be 'cheap'.

Great! Armsup

Do you know if the stock head unit currently in the 06 Jimny could power a small underseat sub an amp such as this one: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Slim-10- ... 0776048877 As well as the 4" job speakers linked above?

If i do need a new head unit are there cheap options for one without having to buy a whole new fascia? :?

Another thing is I want to put some speakers in the rear eventually with this setup, do you know what size speakers can fit in just behind the rear seats, and does it come with the wiring ready just no speaker? Appreciate it!

I have also found this, I don't know how to explain it other then can this work instead of paying hundreds for a new fascia:

Thanks for your help! :D

timmy is right. No RCAs. A head unit cannot power a sub. It needs its own amp. I can't recall if the amp has rear speaker outputs. Does it have Front to Back fading?

Any aftermarket stereo will require some sort of facia/surround mod unless you are happy with a bit of a gap.

There is a big hole in the sides so the size will be limited by the trim.

'does it come with the wiring ready just no speaker?'. Do you mean does the Jimny have rear speaker cable? No.

That facia may work, with a double DIN unit. Probably not 2 single units.

my jimny from factory came with no rear speakers but had the cables there ready. All I had to do was plug them in.
5inch fits in the rear holes. There should be some foam that you need to remove from the plastic car panels over the grills too.
Mine is a 2012 so earlier ones may not be set up like this.

I'm running a slimline sub under the passenger seat. It's a self powered jobbie from Jaycar, receiving the signal from the front speaker (factory headdeck)

Thanks guys.

bought this fascia mod yesterday: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/11-357-Radio ... OC:AU:3160

And will purchase this double din head unit soon (which will fit fine with that mod above): http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_458 ... -R500.html

Will also purchase 2x 4" speakers for the front and 2x 5" speakers for the rear. Cheers Dan85, iv'e looked around and my 06 model also has the rear wiring ready for a speaker install! :)

Will see how that goes for the time being and if i eventually want a sub + amp i will look into one. How are the under seat subs? would you recommend it? And how is it for installation? Another thing is what model number is it? I'll look into it! :)

Cheers!

I have given thought to using my 7" Samsung tablet as the control, outputing to an amp. Thre are apps that work well for this apparantly.

Alas my tablet has gotten real slow so I don't think it'd do the job anymore.

Albeit a simple unit, looks the goods.

Even has a bluetooth option.

Any unit I buy from now on won't be CD. USB/BT only.
