Finished the internal framing, including added cross beams on rear, to support the door hinges.
Got the front panels fitted.
May get started on framing rear door next, so it don't warp before I ready to fit it.

Was in the process of removing the rear panels, so I could glue n screw them.
But the excess glue from the frame work had stuck them on fast.
So I accepted that as done, and moved on.
I am a bit excessive with glue I think.

I assumed ( I know, stupid) that this would be removable.

My trailer is a much needed item, a project is not what it ( or I ) need

No reason why you couldn't make a removable one.
Or a bolt onto the top of trailer version.
Both of which I considered.
Also considered a bolt on hard shell camper top,
but when I was out looking at them, I spotted a T-van, which cemented my desire for a teardrop type van.

I'm thinking you might need a rib running across the whole roof, side to side in at least one spot.

There's a fair bot of weight to move around attached to a timber frame. Might event want to do something a little further down the wall.

The reason for wanting to build one of these is the challenge of doing it.

Roof piece should only be around 10kg.
But I will have room for more cross bracing if needed.
Will look into that as I go.
There is still more internal panelling to go in, which will also help with structure.
Am considering an arch shaped ceiling.


Challenge is a definite part of doing anything, but would buy a t Van if I could
I'm trying to keep it as simple as I can, for weight, cost and work load.

Finished the panelling, in between air con and drink breaks.
Was a bit hot today, but I already had one slack day inside.
Nothing is square, I expected that, but all was much squarer than I thought it would be.
Will still be able to hide any oopses all behind some strapping
Had some glue / sealer left so I filled a few of the screw holes.

Windows, vents and rear door next, or maybe finish the paint the inside.

Futon is very heavy, I have one in our camper and want to swap to foam. The futon retains moisture too

Was planning to cut the windows and the holes for them, but I got started on back door instead.
Main reason being, I was scared of stuffing up the cuts, so I figured do the rear door first,
as I can fix that more easily, if I get it wrong
Then I'll feel more motivated to cut holes into sides of the camper.
May add some extra framing up front, after window holes are in, if it is needed.
No big days at the moment, neighbours deserve a bit of a break from noise due to the hangover season.

May get more beefier hinges later, they looked stronger in the packet than they do fitted.

Still arguing with myself over color.
Red to match Vit would look schmick, but white reflects heat better.
White would show muck.
Darker colors lessen the life of plywood (according to wood experts)
And what happens if my next car is a different color (Could repaint I guess)
At the moment I'm thinking white from top down to the guards area, and the rest red (which is mostly the metal bits.)
Or a white roof with red sides.
Or yellow to match my new portable radio

Made a start on the windows, and their holes.
Perspex cutting went better than expected, which was a relief.
But the window would not go into the rubber molding , no matter what I tried.
Either too small of a window for big rubber, or I need different rubber,
or a different plan.
Look into that later,
but may go back to original plan of incorporating windows into framing, with some pretty cover straps.

Great progress Chris. You seem to be progressing faster now you have the garage back. Are you planning on having it ready for the high country trip in January?

That would be good, but is unlikely.

Remember chris that windows allow you to see all the dodgy people creeping up on you, but it also allows dodgy people to see all the creepy things you are doing in there.

Anything solar charged is a bonus but not doing anything when the shiny thing goes down..
1 or 2 of those spinners on the roof will suck the heat out..

A fan is just circulating the heat around, you need an outlet for the heat.

I'm doing a similar thing to my 5x3 but just to pack/store camping gear etc.
Mainly because I have 3 dogs and 2 kids to tag along as well.
Trailer +roof storage should do, done it traveling to straddie that way
