Well it seems that the pony's are escaping my 2005 M13A VVT Jimny. Today my car refused to go over 90km in 5th gear with foot flat to the floor on a dead flat road. When I put it back in 4th it still didn't want to go any more. I also noticed that while taking off its bot as quick, takes a bit of time to build up speed. When I finally got it up to 100km (one of the rare times) and was going up a slight incline the power would instantly disappear and would slow right down to Bout 75-80km. I have never had this issue before. Also probably non related, for a while now it feels as though something is hitting the floor under the driver and passenger footwells and I can also hear it quite clearly. I have been under the car and cant feel where anything would be hitting and cant see any signs of it either. Any help with either of these issues would be much appreciated.

Yesterday when I first noticed the problem I pulled over and checked the air filter but seems to be fine. I can hear a slight rattle when I hit the bottom of the cat so will pull the exhaust off when I get home. No lights are coming up on the dash and I don't have a code scanner. I was thing it would probably be the cat as there was another post on here a while back and that was there problem. Was just wondering if maybe anyone else had had this issue. Thanks for you help, will post back as soon as I pull the exhaust off and let you know if its blocked or not.

I've got a 2 inch... It's not mandrel bent though and I have a set of aftermarket extractors. I'm using the factory cat still and the factory muffler. Nice note and not too noisy

Well I just disconnected my exhaust from just behind the cat but the bolts on the cat shroud are too rusty so I could not get to the sensor. I ran the Jimny with it disconnected like that to see if it would blow any bits out or if it would move it closer to where I can see and it sounded awesome but is too noisy. I couldnt see anything so I just bolted it all up and will call some exhaust shops tomorrow to try get it in the same day to get checked out. If it needs to be replaced I might just get a new cat and upgraded muffler to give it a nice note.

Well I cant have it booked in tomorrow now as my mum (who had the day off) has been called in. I will reverse the Jimny up on ramps tomorrow morning and soak the bolts constantly until I can get it off. The bolts im having trouble with is the 4 holding the shroud thingy on the cat that is blocking me from disconnecting the sensor and the ones that connect the actual muffler. Anyone have any tips with the removal of these ones? Hopefully I can work them loose tomorrow.

go get some acetone (nalipolish remover) off ya mum and mix it with 50/50 with automatic trans fluid. you wont need much and you can paint it on with a brush onto the stuck bolts
the 2 wont mix and will seperate but if you put it in a spray bottle shake it before every use.

Well I've pulled the whole exhaust off. There is no crap in the pipes. The cat does not rattle when I shake it and nothing ratyles in the muffler either. So the good news is the exhaust is all good but the bad news is that means something else is wrong. The sensor terminal connections where completely full of dry mud and dirt, would this cause the sensor to not read properly causing it to not adjust the fuel mixture accordingly?

Well i have just run my Jimny straight from the exhaust manifold, the check engine light came on. Im guessing the reson why it appeared was because the sensor was disconnected.

Ok the whole exhaust has been bolted back on and the O2 sensor connected again. Started my Jimny and the check engine light still remains even after a few mins. Anyone know why it would be on? Is it because the sensor was disconnected?

Take the negative terminal off the battery for about 5 mins. It should reset the engine light

Thanks Timmy, I'll give that a go now. Would the engine light had of been caused by the sensor being disconnected? Either that or the lack in power that the engine has been having has only just triggered the light.

My guess is because you disconnected the sensor... If it doesn't go out after you reset it, check the codes

Well now I need to have my car booked into the mechanics. Seems its a new car to me its probably a good idea to have all spark plugs, oils and filters replaced so that I know its running good.

Not sure, havent taken it for a drive yet. It needs to have a thorough service anyway and while I was revving it today it sounded like a belt was also slightly slipping.

Well my Jimny has come back from the mechanic after 4 days. The belts have all been replaced as they were almost on their way out apparently. All spark plugs have been replaced. When the mechanic was having a look at the coil packs he noticed that the number 3 coil pack seemed to have moisture in it so he thinks it may have been arcing out on the head causing it to drop in power. He was able to clean it up a bit but in the future it may need replacing. When I drove today it seemed like it now has more power than it ever had.

And one of the spark plugs was not producing the right amount of spark as well. I haven't been billed for it as yet as the invoice was not ready when I picked it up so when it gets mailed to me I will post what had to be replaced etc.

check and clean your O2 sensor and throttle position sensors... sounds like it is in limp mode for some reason?

Mechanic reckons it was the 3rd coil pack arcing out on the head die to moisture in it, and one of the spark plugs was not producing much spark. Either way its fixed now so im happy. Thanks

limp mode your be lucky to get over 20kph

It'll happily sit on 100 in limp mode, getting there takes a little longer and you use a shitload more fuel. But you'd know you're in limp mode when you're idling. It'll be rough as hell

I didnt notice it idling rough. All I noticed was it have having trouble gaining power and speed

Well I've only just received the invoice today and the total came to $315.55. The description says that they had cleaned the coil packs, replaced the spark plugs, cleaned the air filter, and ran engine conditioner through the engine. And last but not least, replaced my 1 month old silicon wiper blades that were really good for cheaper shit ones. Buy im not worried about that anyway.

All in all I'm happy it is now running fine and didnt cost much. Very happy with their service.
