I've just finished speakers and head unit, couldn't deal witjout having some ok sound.
Was nearly going to put a boat sound system in to keep it waterproof but this will be a budget build, so decided against.
Next will be around a 3" lift, and then I'll decide on a tire size. Really would like to keep stock sizing because like I said it's a budget build unlike my hilux an I don't want to destroy economy. Maybe go up an inch or two though...

Just say no to a 3" lift. It won't make the car better in any way. More lift = less flex and harsher ride.

Steve. Want it look a bit cooler, as I've said I have a pretty serious hilux for off road driving.

Well a 3" lift and stock sizes tyres will certainly make it look and work more like a hilux, if thats what you're going for.

Hehe thought i'd get a bite there- disappointed troll is disappointed. I am being kind of serious though- You'd be far happier with less lift and larger tyres, both on and off road. Sierras can run very soft springs because they are spring under and you really want to limit the height as much as possible to improve stability. Steve.

Couldn't agree more mate, I even went as far as cutting the wheel arches 6" open to avoid body lifting and to get 35s on.
This won't be an extreme car so just going to have fun with it. They look grouse with a bit of lift.
I'll just body lift, vitara gears and 31s for now

A 2" BL is all you need to clear 31's. No other /more lift is required or desirable.
I'm not a fan of vitara diff gears to offset 31's- it's twice the reduction you need to offset the tyres on road but less than half of what you need offroad, but if you get them cheap and can properly set them up cheaply then they *might* be cheaper than transfer gears.

What else would you suggest?
Can't imagine it would move to well without a regear so I better sort it before fitting the tires

Put a leafy transfer case in with reduction gears from low range offroad Steve will be able to go into detail on that one

Oh just twigged you have a coiler. Sorry, vitara diff gears do not fit the front of a coiler. There are no alternative diff ratios for a coiler at all.
You need a 1.0 litre 4wd switch equipped transfer case, or ideally a 1.3 sierra transfer case with reduction gears fitted in order to correct the gearing for 31" tyres.

Yea dam didn't realize that I couldn't change diff ratios in a coily! Shit!
What my looking at to have my transfer case re-geared?
Can I just ask the stupid question.. Does transfer case get effected by diff gears anyway? Just wondering because you said diff gears from the vitara is over kill but under kill off road. As in if let's say I double my

The transfer case in a coily won't accept transfer gears from LROR and thats why you need a transfer case out of sj70 widetrack leafy or a switched 1l case but personally go the leafy sj70
Transfer case gears do a small reduction in high range and a large reduction in lowrange which is what you want because sierra lowrange isnt low enough

That makes sense! So will a stock sj70 case bolt right up? And will I be able to use a stock one or need to change gearing in it?

If there's a shop in Melbourne, I'd almost rather just let them do it and wear the bill. So long as it will be spot on

As in if let's say I double my Its about 800 to build a geared transfer. Forget the vit diff gears, but what steve means is they reduce your gearing more than you need to correct for 31's. My maths is dodgy but it says 5.12s (is what the vit gears are I think) are 76 % lower than 3.9's (which is coily ratio right?) Your tires are 20% bigger at most. This reduction could work offroad but wont be as much as a set of 6.5:1 transfer gears (20% reduction in high range, something huge like 167% in low), on road or off. Stock SJ70 case will not do, it will need reduction gears.

Awesome bit of info mate! Cheers! So I'll keep my eyes pealed for an sj70 transfer case with reduction gears.
Can I just confirm, would that bolt right in?

With the jack shaft and front driveshaft from a sj70, yes.
