in buxbox's defence, your inital post was a bit vague... when most people think of alloys they thinking of head stems from 1980's bmx & the alloy they used to make the heads on TB42 patrols.

Hey Dan, I didn't intend or mean to portray that you were wrong, I simply wanted to know a little more information. When someone asks for an explanation, Just cause, Is not a proper response.
I now understand that alloy is more resistant to bending in which it would spring back where as steel would remain bent. Done and dusted.
Haven't been on in a while, let alone making another account to stir you up. BnS sook? Haha, if you even had the slightest idea of the roads I drive, you'd understand why I have a couple of sets of spotties on my ute.

You know, you are all fucking wrong, go learn the basics of yield strengths and how ductile different metals are before sprouting your redneck engineering.
Chromoly also isn't some super metal like they make out but is almost twice as stiff as normal 1010 carbon steel, 6061-T6 has a yield lower than 1010 carbon steel (what stock arms would likely be made of) but as its used in much thicker sections (and also solid) then overall its stronger, but then the same dimensions in normal 1010 would be stronger again and a heap cheaper and harder.
Section dimensions also play a part, a solid section is more forgiving when bent and straightened, hollow sections like to collapse and not be straightened (ask anyone with a cheap bender) a larger diameter thinner wall section can be as stiff as a smaller diameter thicker wall section but lighter, its also going to be easier to damage.
I'd just get a solid chunk of 1020 carbon steel in cold drawn finish (stronger than turned and polished) and be done with it
