Whats all this ^^^ :rol:
104 is hot but its not deadly never went over, my old clutch fan wasn't that good either on hot days ran in the high 90's it was still bellow half way on the temp gage. Aircon on and heater it dropped to 98 aircon off heater off it stayed there. no big deal, it only got hot when i had to change lanes quickly to avoid a truck that shouldn't of been parked there.
Besides I have another car to drive tomorrow so no big deal. Radiator ordered hopefully here by weekend, still have to work out fans. Might head down to u-gank-it waste a buck and check out the actual size, I have a feeling the shroud bit will fit its mainly the mounts that stick out the extra inch each side. Get one if fits for temp and order the Spal.

pretty sure the undersized radiator is the root to all your problems... just have a look at how many SQ owners don't run thermo fans.

atari4x4 wrote: why haven't you gone down the route of fitting an EWP if you're all about hypermilling? Im not about hypermiling but 16l/100k when it should be doing 10-12 that's what I was trying to fix. Havent gone down the EWP path which I was considering because of how much a pain in the arse the pump was to do. But second time round took me prob around 3 hours as new how to remove the cover without all the headaches. A EWP is a lot more envolved than just putting in the pump, need the right flow, block the bypass, remove the thermostat, the mechanical will do I think. Will stick with the larger radiator and fans for now. will still think about it but wont do anything unless I got everything covered. Bypass, flowrate and control esp reliability is my concern. also pumps say they flow a certain amount but how much would they flow under pressure. I got the pumps in mind I will just have to get one and run some tests, if not up to it I can use it to pump out my fish tanks I think it was the radiator not being big enough, and on hot days the old fan was loud sounded if it locked itself and ran at same rpms as engine which would explain the poor economy on the highway.

Im not going to be able to afford a SPAL fan anytime soon, I could fit one high flow 16" Derale fan on with a 10" the 10inch basically will switch on early above 82 to provide some flow then the 16" at 95 The 10" most likely will stay on all the time (in trafic) but the 16" being the size and flow rating (1980CFM) should stay on breifly hopefully just at idel. Ill make a Aloy shroud to cover the full radiator.

Unless you're going to shroud them separately you'll end up with the single operating fan sucking in air though the other non operational fan - not through the radiator!
Save some money and do it properly. You've already been burnt on the current fans.

you could have been back on the road for the cost of a viscous hub & fan after doing the water pump, then pick up the correct radiator & have factory reliability.

Current fans ill still have a use for them somewhere. I was going to mount the 10" against the radiator directly under the inlet hose then the 16" on the shroud bottom drivers side. Idea was the little 10" will cool the water comming in through the intake and down that side while the 16" will pratically cool the whole radiator minus the 10" fan area that will be sealed off. The 16" fan alone without a shroud with the larger radiator would be enough. Im going to need my car back on the road as a daily from mid next week. I like the spal as makes things alot more simple but prob would take 2-4 weeks to come in, and would take the same time to recover from all the repairs + doing rennos. Derale great fan 149. Lol G i know, the vicious fan and hub would of been here by now. but where would you get a shroud? The XL-7s i got my parts off all been in front end colisions. Ill wait untill the radiator comes and see if the old shroud will mount on the larger radiator and how much of the radiator wont be cooled. by a fan. May work.

With all the dicking around and money spent with these lecky fans/controllers I reckon you could have got a custom shroud made or a busted plastic one repaired....

Lol it's doing ok.. sitting at around 92. Taking it easy. But got a Camry as a backup.
It never goes over half way. Its a good test to see how hot it can get and what improvement it will make when back to what it should be.
I think temp gauge only goes hotter than half way when over 105 eg 107 is 3/4 115 is prob at the red line. Boiling point of the penrite coolant i have in it is 109.

Yep i asked ALL "XL-7 owners", then all i wanted to know is measurements, then became 4 pages long. made the last two days interesting. TO sum it all up 1. i Got a Small GV radiator 2. Should go back to stock radiator, hub and fan.

Or if we need another 3 pages of all saying the same thing.

LOL, Im stuborn what more can i say? It will be fixed radiator with courier just waiting on other stuff. Car isnt overheating now anyways went really well on way home in 38degree's was running for around a hour and a half didnt go over 98 sat most of time around 92. Never was really a issue just having a now realised tooo small radiator the whole time i had it prob caused few issues ive been trying to get rid off all these years eg poor fuel economy, loud fan on warm days, slugish performance on days above 30. Over heating clutch fluid (on hot days)

All hopefull that my car will have a new radiator in tomorrow. Crushed by a franchise courier driver doing a drive by. Well he wont be paid a second time im going to pick it up! We have actually watched this happen and then before he had a chance to drive off we knocked on his window, usually only happens with big items not small, as I guess they get paid each time they come out.

I would go back to the stock set up. If operational temperatures are still too high then think about fitting a bonnet scoop... This will give the Hot under bonnet air a clean exit. A Reverse mounted Scoop from a WRX series 1 would look ugly as sin but would drop the engine temps down.. (Check your states Rules and regulations on Bonnet Scoops)

Bonnet scoops
Fitting a bonnet scoop (forward or rearward facing) to a motor vehicle is only acceptable provided that it is designed, built and fitted in a way that minimises the likelihood of injury to a person accidentally making contact with the vehicle.Temp is fine fan barely turned on today that was up and down montigue road, down main north, to costco, down grand junction with the aircon on. If fan did turn on they where on only briefly. Put your hands up if you want to see bonnet scoop on my car lol... Not sure about a scoop but vents maybe. But everyone says its a racecar so might as well do the full job At front of bonnet facing forward at rear just above each exaust

lol it's raining and currently 17.4* degrees now. i think your problems stem from having too much air pressure in your inner guards after fitting the bullbar, this would also contribute to the poor fuel economy. you should fit some vented front guards. no italics

Hey, did you see Mythbusters during the week? Golf ball style dimples on a car improved the fuel economy by 11%. Proven gains.
