So, as the new(to me) Vitara is being ironed out of all its bugs, It seems the Air con is being a dick. I have been chasing wires, fuses and relays for days and still cant get my head around why its not clicking in. From the engine bay, the air con will click on if hotwired. The relay will click if power is put to it, the fuses are all ok. In the cab, the fuses all good, the fan works and there is power to the air con button button, but the air con wont click on with the button(no light either). So from what i can make out is, there is power to the circuit, but no joy. Any ideas from those better than me? Any ideas would be appretiated.

There are a couple of "safety" circuits that disable the a/c system ...

- the first is a sensor in the cooling system - if it detects an "overheat" condition, it will disable the a/c system and enable the condenser fan - so make sure the condenser fan is functional but not running.

- the second is a dual pressure switch in the a/c system - if the refrigerant circuit has either too much or too little refrigerant, that switch will open, disabling the system.

Make sure you know exactly what is "clicking on if hotwired" - there should be separate relays for the compressor clutch, and the condenser fan, and don't rule out the possibility of a defective a/c amplifier board.

Have tried it with the recirlate on, no joy. The clicking is the clutch for the compressor. the relays click when hit with power, so i have ruled them out. Where is the condenser fan? and how do I find the pressure switch? Those safty systems could be the reason, but when the clutch is hotwired, the system will get cold, so im not sure where to go from here.

Have you had it checked by an air con place as the most likely cause is low gas level - This is the reason 90% of the time.

Not yet, guess that`ll have to wait till i get back from the MotoGP. I know, its a hard life, but it has to be done...
