I am thinking of reducing ratios in my 94 SWB EFI SE416 Vitara, has the usual 5.125 ratio diffs. Reduction gears are usual option I guess, but was wondering the options on swapping transfers over as X-90's and SV420 and SV620 all use the same transfer casing and should swap easily enough. Does any one KNOW or KNOW WHERE TO FIND details of transfer ratios for these models or are they all the same and ratios are different within the gears of these models?

Yeah there is no change in gears throughout the years, you will need aftermarket ratios.

Simple high range reduction is to stop using 5th on the highway.

Get a set of aftermarket xfer gears for offroad.

Ok, I don't convinced the transfer ratios are the same. well im sure the x-90 is not, runs same running gear, engine etc as se416, but has 4.6ratio diffs and larger wheels? it must be lowered somewhere? transfer is my guess.

Yeah I've read that on here before and asked the mechanic at suzistore (the good one that left) about it and he said every one he has looked at have been 5.12 and the complete drive line/running gear is the same as SE of the same year.
Also remember reading that Squeak shella that built the silver one wanted to regear hers after she put 31's under it but the diffs were already as tall as she could get and just put in tranfer gears (however i read that around ten years ago so i might be remembering wrong)

X90 - 4.62 differentials in the 4-speed automatic, 5.12 in the 5-speed manual.

Pretty much every G16-equipped Vit/X90 has the same transfer case. The only way to get higher ratios in 4-Low is to go with an aftermarket gearset...

Ok, you are right Joe, I have 3 x-90's hence why I'm thinking of swapping a transfer, and they all have larger tyres 235/65... odd now, but just gathered that it was a stock thing.
As for transfer, still not convinced if x-90 auto has aw4 transmition like standard se416 why do standard auto and manual se416 both have 5.125 but an auto x-90 has 4.6???
think I may be jacking and spinning some wheels tomorrow, no autos to confirm that one though.

Yep. X-90 are 4.8/5.12 as far as I know locally.

Carby Vitara autos are 4.6.

Well I have checked my 3 manual x-90's , and yes all running 5.125ratio diffs. still wouldn't mind confirmation of the transfer ratios from sv420 and sv620.
and still curious to know about auto x-90 diff ratio being 4.6 or 4.8 and why it would be different to auto se416 with aw4..
