In need of some good paint tech before I go squirting black stuff at metal things currently sitting in primer.

I really like the British Paint rattle guns after a solid AZ recommendation - not sure I could go back to anything else after using them - but with that in mind, what is the best paint to spit at bar work? Glossy something I assume, UV stabilised/resistant, easy to throw on and easy to touch up?

The bar work will cop a flogging, so touch ups will happen regularly. Something nice and thick and/or bash/scrape resistant would be good. What does everyone else use?

Rust, and when it's looking really bad, I drag it over some rocks to polish it up.

I'm not sure of any thing that looks good after a few bush runs however the two pac on my front bar is holding up x1,000,000 times better than the spray pack on the sliders.

I use black rust guard on mine, straight from the spray-can.

After 2 years or so it loses its gloss and goes a bit grey, but nothing a light re-coat doesn't fix right up.

The ease of touch-ups / re-coating is what does it for me. But then the paintwork on my sierra is poo, so the bar looking a bit ratty doesn't concern me too much.

Has anyone ever used the John Deere Black Blitz Black stuff? Being UV stabilised and easy to squirt on sounds good to me, even if it is a little bit too "hot rod" hipster cool.

I normally go over my barwork with a file to smooth off the gouges, I then use Killrust black gloss enamel in the spraycan. It hides and blends welds in nice too as its a bit thicker than a $2can

That sounds rather perfect. I also plan to hit them with a file when needed. Does it go all powdery in the sun like just about everything else?

Mine's never gone powdery, just dulls back to a matt finish and charcoal colour eventually. I just give it a wipe with a dry towel to get any big dirt/dust off it then another light coat using a piece of cardboard to shield things like the spotties / headlights etc as i go. Takes all of 10mins and lasts about a year before showing signs of dulling again. Mine's parked in full sun all year round too.

I used Barrier 2k on my front bar. Good UV and shiny. For my roof basket i used killrust matte black. Thats what I'll be using for all future barwork.

2k Acrylic Urethane for longevity and gloss retention. The best I have used is Glasurit but Protec 2k is almost as good.

A 2k Polyurethane would stick better, hold gloss longer, but much harder to spray and fix.

For rattlecan, CRC Zinc Black on bare metal works well, good at inhibiting corrosion, dries fast and easy to touch up. Matte though.

Ease of touchups and ease of initial use pretty much rule out 2k options I think. I will be beating on this bar work every time I drive it.

A few good options here though, feel free to keep them coming.

if you're painting stuff that's likely to cop bumps & worried about chipping you're best off using epoxy enamel, which kill rush in rattle cans just happens to be (of course powder coated is better).

Mine doesn't really see much sun. The rollcage has changed a little(still glossy when clean) and the bar work around, Most of it never gets old enough.. um..trees, rocks, dirt polish.

Bumper Bar Black is flexy as fuck, my calmini stuff was panted 10yrs ago & only needed a freshen up when I built the blagon.

Yeah, I think it's safe to say I am ruling out 2k and powder as options for my particular needs.

The VHT roll bar and chassis black is pretty good, they have good nozzles on their spray cans too.
