flashing dash - jimmy won't start

Hi guys,

Have had my 98 jimny sitting outside for two weeks as i took a trip to NZ. When i first tried to start it again, i heard a recurring clicking noise, which sounded like the fuel pump maybe, but the engine wouldn't even turn over. Charged my battery, tried jumping, tried different key. Now when i try to start it theres no noise, and no specific lights on the dash, but the whole backlighting of the dash flashes on and off and my brake lights flash. Still won't turn over.

From what I've read it could be an immobiliser problem, has anyone had any issues with this before?

I didn't think jimnys of that age had an immobiliser? (Or at least not a factory fitted one)

Yeah well I'm not sure at all what it is I haven't been able to find any other cases with identical issues, only similar ones. There's no check engine light or anything. As far as I'm aware there hasn't been an aftermarket one fitted

I would try another battery or jump start it with the original battery disconnected. I tried to jump start my neighbours toyota while back and it would not turn over. Disconnected his battery and it jump started just fine. Sometimes there are internal shorts in the battery that stuff things up and they give the appearance of being charged but really aren't. He had been charging the battery for 2 days.

Yeah mate I used mike57s idea of jumping with the battery disconnected and it worked a treat

So it was your battery thar was cactus?
I have bridged from my ignition barrel straight to starter motor and now it turns over but no spark. Assuming my aftermarket
Tesor immobiliser is holding it out.
