Hi guys, done a quick search on this one to no avail.

On my Sierra I am aiming to fit genuine Sierra power steering alongside Sierra airconditioning. I have seen pics of it done by some smart Kiwi fella, although his engine was a g16a. Here:

He had to modify the brackets slightly too.

Unfortunately I don't have the luxury of a g16a to compare to my g13a, unless I go buy one (not too keen because I have enough stuff lying around, and don't wanna spend coin)

So my question is: do the 8 valve engines have interchangeable brackets, i.e.: A/C power steering, alt.

If so, I'll order an 8v Vitara bracket from the UK and start modifying it to work on the g13a with AC, if it won't fit, I'll wait till I do my g16b and put it all in together.

Cheers,

Mark

The power steering bracket between a G13bb and a G16a were different, so not all 8 valve engines have interchangeable brackets. Not sure on your exact question though.

Zook_Fan you've effectively answered the question anyway.

My question should have read: "are g16a brackets able to be used on the g13a to mount the power steering pump and air conditioning to a g13a in a sierra, with or without modifications to the brackets"

The reason I ask is surely a lot of G16a Vitaras were sold with A/C and power steer, and thus it would make finding a OEM bracket easier.

I have a power steering unit that is apparently genuine sierra according to a trustworthy seller and I also have dealer installed Aircon. I want the power steer but I'm not going to give up the A/C to mount it.

If it's your daily, totally understandable but if you use the sierra offroad in technical sections power steering is awesome. You come home after having a heap of fun and your arms aren't dead from man handling tyres all day.

The power steering pump is different between a jimny and vitara. I'd take a guess that the aircon compressor is also between sierra and vitara.

Yeah the car is a daily or at least gets driven on road very regularly. I want the power steer 100% for 4x4ing, because the manual steering works fine on road and most situations off road. Not on rocks though or in some rut situations, so Id like more control and am planning a front locker after power steer.

But... I've got a g16b there, and am planning to convert middle of next year at the earliest, or when the 1.3 goes. (165,000 reasonably well looked after).

So I might just wait and use g16b vitara brackets and pumps on the g16b mated to the Sierra A/C lines and power steering setup.

Cheers.

Bumping up an old thread.

Did you ever go through with this Marko?

I'm looking at PS options but not sacrificing AC for it either.

They removed the passenger side radiator bracket on the chassis.

This creates oodles of room, and i think you can use what ever brackets you want.

I've been looking at just straightening out the passenger side radiator bracket, and to carefully cut and weld the bracket on the chassis.

No. Its still sitting in the box old mate sent it to me in waiting for when I have renewed interest in 4x4ing for the sake of 4x4ing. I was going to try the trail tough setup and toyota pump to keep things easy and off the shelf.

With a bit of luck I might play with my sierra a bit more in the new year. I'd need to fix the AC first though (half the reason I parked up the old girl :( )

Bump.

It has been done. Involved fabrication of a bracket, a lot of stuffing around with the pulleys and a quite long belt.

It is a compromise, but my G13a now runs an AC compressor and power steer. One finger steering is awesome. Totally changes the feel of the car.

And I swear the new box is tighter and has less play?? Regardless, it is actually nice to drive.
