Had a good look around the motor today and noticed a fairly large odd shaped hole on the passenger side low down near the back of the motor. You can clearly see teeth from what I presume is the flywheel inside? Hole is about 50c sized.

I'm resuming this is some sort of inspection hole or observation hole for checking engine timing or some such? It doesn't look like damage although the shape is pretty weird - a bit like a profile of a cam.

Is there supposed to be some sort of plug or something over this?

Thanks Mick - that's the shape of the hole all right! I thought perhaps something had gone very wrong when I first saw it but I guess the plug has just been lost...hate to think how much beach sand has gone in there 8O

Very few still have the cover, especially if they have extractors. Exhaust heat kills them.

Suzuki is very good at stocking older, odd parts - I'm sure this rubber bung is still available new.
