G'day AZ
I'm looking at swapping my SJ80 softtop body onto a NT 1.3 chassis i know the body mounts line up but is there anything else i need to be aware of?
Also for a legal point of view am i aloud to do this? and will it need to be re registered or can i just use the rego from the SJ80?

You'll have to comply to the emissions standard of the 80. Using the new body you should be right. You'll need to comply to all ADRs of the later model.

That was the plan but my mate who does my welding is moving away so unless it all gets done in one weekend i end up left with out a car
This way i can take my time and build the chassis up with ruf WT diffs have it all done and rolling then in one weekend swap my body and motor/gearbox over

Just seems alot of effort, how often are you wanting to do harder stuff, gears and a rear locker will make it pretty capable and alot more legal.

Jimny diff won't just "bolt in" still needs fab work and is still made of cheese
Have been out only a hand full off times but want to get out more and do harder/funner stuff and build it to be reliable and stronger.

You're almost better off buying that NT and leaving it NT bodied then trailering it out to tracks and beating the shit out of it. This way you're not paying rego, doesn't matter if you break it and you'll have more fun not worried about damaging your DD?

I think its the nt spring spacing on wt diffs joe is after, you can build it tough enough for weekend thrashing and daily driving pretty easy in wa, theres not really the need for a bigger tyre than a 31 unless u drive mud puddles.
You probably are better off buying a leafy and swapping motors then flogging the coily off. Dont get to caught up on the whole nt spacing on wt diffs thing you will run out of wheelbase before it becomes a relevant mod. Lockers, front chromos, gearing and 31"s will have u drive every track from bobs hill to the powerlines

Joe it sounds like you were in the exact position I was with my Coily. I looked at heaps of options and the easiest (for me) was to build up a WT to suit what i wanted to do.

You could swap the bodies over but as the frame number is stamped on the chassis this would mean new rego. (For it to be tip top legal)

As far as dot are concerned, the chassis is the car no matter what body you put on it. To be legal you'l have to be regoed as the chassis. But you're not going to be legal anyway.....
