Is there any issue storing an engine on it's side on a pallet as I have done?
I removed the 1.3 out of my Sierra today, and this was the best I could come up with. (See below)
It's resting on it's side, on the exhaust manifold.

It'll be fine. I assume you've drained oil out of it?

Yes.. Drain the oil and block any possible entrance so mud wasps etc etc cant get in . Keep it in a dry place and it will be fine.

Yes, the oil has been drained.
And I'll make sure all the openings are taped up.
Not sure whether to sell it or hold onto it.
I bought a Baleno 1.6 and planning to drop into the Sierra soon.

I'm also a fan of popping some rag soaked in diesel in there. I'm a bit bush-happy but I find it helps keep shit out and rust at bay. Stuff it in manifold openings etc and tape over it. I've had motors sitting a long time that way with good results

Since removing the sumps from the 1.3 and 1.6 all the internals are exposed to the elements now (I'm working outside, on gravel, partially undercover now). Should I be attempting to seal fairly off those entrances somehow?
I was hoping to sit the blocks flat on cardboard once the sumps were off, but due to various things sticking out bottom they will have to lie on their side.

Last thing you want is dirt and dust inside there. Do your best to seal and/or cover

Depends on how much you care about the 1.3

I'd put a sump back on the 1.6 whilst you're figuring it out.

Cay ya get hold of a roll of shrink wrap?
Suspend it or mount on an engine stand, and wrap it up....

@IDYX, thanks, I should have thought of that.
Don't got no shrink wrap, but I've replaced the newspaper and packing tape I'd used with glad wrap/plastic wrap/cling film.
Should do the job for now.
