Just because I like to find the hardest way to do anything, I'm in the middle of a M15A High Compression Ignis Sport install into my 2001 NON VVT Jimny.
I've run into many little niggles but nothing major till now, and wondered if I'm the only one as I've used the search function and not found anything that helps yet.
Normally a conversion from VVT to Non VVT requires the swap of only the inlet cam/timing cover and rocker cover.
My M15A has a shorter pitch Chain/Gears than the M13A meaning I cannot just swap one cam, as the chain doesn't mesh with the gear. It's teeth are too far apart for the chain.
I'm going to have to swap the crank gear, both cams, the chain from the M13A and all the other caps and covers to make it work. I'm going to measure the lift on the cams and see how they differ also, I don't have the tooling for working out if the timing or duration is any different.
I have a pretty good grasp of mechanical engineering and all the equipment here but wondered if anyone has attempted this swap. The high compression engine appealed to me rather than the M16A as it makes more power (albeit with VVT)
I have discovered I cannot use the intake from the M15A Sport as it fouls the water pump hoses required for a conventional (non East West) install.

Have you looked into just running the VVT parts without an ECU input to the solenoid? The solenoid inactivated position leaves the intake cam at 0 deg and i couldn't see any side effects from doing so on my m18. I did only run the motor like this for 500-1000 kms.

I Measured the lift as less by 0.3mm on the 1300 cams, Duration looks the same so I'm running them with the 1300 Chain, guides and crank sprocket.
I'd not considered running with the gear disconnected... good idea!
I'll post back how it goes as it appears it's a rare engine swap.
