Hahahaha no worries. If that's the ratio, I assume it will be a bent mild steel system, at 90% the odds are definitely against me I haven't created a build thread yet. I wanted to get as much information as possible before starting it.

To chime in on the discussion from earlier, I have to agree that while exhaust selection does effect peak hp, torque and their respective curves, I think I would be right to say that no exhaust shop is going to do the necessary R&D to create the optimum system for this particular engine. I can only imagine a very slight difference, if any, in such a low output engine.
Exhaust selection is annoying enough, even on the performance scene! It almost goes without saying that a shop will sell from their catalogue irrespective of it's efficacy. Muddier waters still, consumers almost always defend their purchase and spread misinformation accordingly.
In the case of this system, $200 is difficult to walk away from. I've spent more on a night out!

January is upon us team, the workshops re-open next week, let the debates continue hahaha. Noob question while I'm still in the zone I'd like to start a build thread that includes the entire resto as it happens. Paint, interior, motor etc. I now have some progress pics of the car being sanded and primed. Whats the best board to start the thread under? Also, I think it's important to say that I truly and deeply hope that no-one here has been affected by the fires.

Hey all, just an update after a much needed holiday.
The aircon has been fitted (many hiccups later), more panel work is required and the interior is still stripped at the upholsterer.
I'm buying an accelerometer/perfomance measurer tomorrow so I can perform some tests when I get the car back (...only 2 months overdue and counting).
The Sierra has been freshly serviced, the first tests will be standard (albiet with low compression), then followed by tests with extractors and 2" exhaust fitted.
I've been taking photos and will resize them for the build thread when I get that started.

When you say air con fitted, did you buy a factory kit from a wreck or did the car already come with it fitted?

No worries, replied.
Now can anyone answer what soft tops weigh exactly without driver or petrol. I'm getting conflicting reports from online and the owners manual says ".....2 people."

I posted an update recently but it doesn't look to have saved. The car is way overdue but the panel work should be finished this week. The auto trimmer has said end of March and then I'll finally get the car back.
The plan is to set some acceleration times with my stock motor then to fit the exhuast and extractors (once they're repaired and coated). Next stage will be the ZOR MYside1 once purchased and imported from The States. Then camshaft and rockers, again from The States. Engine rebuild will likely be left until absolutelty necessary.

Due to the current circumstances around COVID-19, the exhaust and extractors are being welded, coated and fitted today. I've had to organise installation without completing acceleration tests due to scheduling issues between workshops. The interior is still incomplete and thus would render a flawed comparison to test a stripped interior (stock exhaust) against a full interior (full system) I can only hope to keep the original system aside, refit it, run the test and then refit the new system again. Realistically that's now become quite laborious compared to the planned before and after tests.
Fortunately, exhaust aside, I could still test carb and cam upgrades in future although I'm sure there are readers who are interested to know how much performance is gained installing a full system.

2inch exhaust. I wasn't happy with the holden muffler that came with the system so I've double spent and now had a 2.5inch straight through muffler installed, stepping down to 2inch. It's a louder idle but it still doesn't sound that tough? Any thoughts people? It's a fairly hollow, dull sound and I wanted it more raspy

G13’s don’t sound “tough”. They all sound the same, just louder or quieter.

I'm not so sure of that - I had an 8v G13 in a Swift with a two inch pipe that sounded a lot like an Evolution Lancer - a deep, resonant bass rumble at idle, and a mean snarl when you stepped on the throttle - it definitely did not have that flatness that is typical of four cylinder ricers.
The only part of the exhaust system that was stock was the manifold, everything else was custom built by a local shop.

I don't have many options left. If this doesn't sound decent when it's on song my only other cheap option would be a straight pipe.

Like I said earlier - custom built - they build their own mufflers - the only thing these guys don't build themselves are the pipes.

Ahh, sorry my friend. I misinterpreted your meaning as custom piping/bends with outsourced mufflers which is the norm for exhaust shops. Don't suppose you could find the car, rip the mufflers out and post them to me?? Hahaha

Cams might help with the sound. More so than changing mufflers imo

and you want the muffler as close to the engine as possible so that you get the longest straightest pipe to the back.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Jack jr wrote: and you want the muffler as close to the engine as possible so that you get the longest straightest pipe to the back. I'm just not too keen on spending for a third time. The rear muffler has maybe a meter of tail pipe welded in (as a guess). I've had the car back over the weekend. It's an exhaust sound I can maybe live with but it's quite flat and I suspect it's more so the engine character. vet 180 wrote: Cams might help with the sound. Have been enjoying the car for a few of months now!
A much nicer drive compared to how I bought her so thank-you everyone for your input so far.
I paid a big sum for the service of all services so all fluids etc have been changed. The engine, brakes and underbody were all coated black. Electrics are now working without blowing fuses.
Also the aircon is much more efficient than expected! I'm looking forward to summer.
There's still a few gremlins to work out but that's cars for you. Wipers are worn internally and carb idle circuit is broken.
The next step will be the ZOR carb and a camshaft.

Now for those interested in the results after modifications. I will be running a g-tech test in the near future. Unfortunately as stated earlier I was unable test prior to the exhaust fitment so I will need to compare results to whatever I can find online.
If you're interested in my personal comparison, please read below but **disclaimer, I lack credible data to offer real scientific comparisons*
Mods include: Major service, all fluids and new spark plugs Advanced timing Premium Unleaded Fuel (98ron) Mild steel 2 inch Exhaust (painted) 1 x straight through Muffler 2.5 inch (reducing to 2inch)
Assessment: The car revs more freely in the upper rev range. 4000 rpm onwards. The pre-existing flat spot is significantly reduced/or potentially eliminated
The car was able to climb a steep incline (Princes highway entrance) at 90kph, the Southern Expressway (south rd) entrance at 100kph and could travel up to speeds of 130kph (confirmed with a gps speedometer) on flat terrain. A feat it was not able to achieve previously.
