How much is involved in replacing cab mounts on a SJ50?

Rubbers? Not that hard, do one side at a time like when fitting a body lift

Replacing cab mounts on an SJ50 can be a bit involved, depending on your experience. You’ll need to lift the cab slightly to access the mounts, which means having a jack and stands ready. Be prepared to deal with rusted bolts if the vehicle is older. It’s a time-consuming job, but not overly complicated if you’ve got basic mechanical skills. J

I have had a look at my mounts on my SJ50 as I needed to undo them when replacing the front body section, front guards and grill and wheel arch section
The rubber mounts seemed fine but the bolts snapped to easily because they have not been touched since the vehicle had them put on in 1989.

Left with 2 rusty sticks I ground them flat and planned to drill them out, however the drill size had to increase greatly as the welded nut on the inside of the chassis rail would not make it a nice neat replacement. So slowly going up in size I removed the old bolt and ended up putting M12 bolts in after attacking the remainder of the nuts with a big hammer and a cold chisel and being thinner they fell off after the cracking with the appropriate number of hits. Big washers hid everything and it is now stronger than it needs to be.

It makes me reluctant to look at the other body mounts and Fordem thinks Rubber bushes are the way to go, but I am thinking Polyurethane, but be careful of opening the tin of worms unless you have to as I have not mentioned yet the drill bit which snapped off in the process or how hard it is to remove them once snapped and left in the hole you are working on being too short to grab. Better quality drill bits will be their replacement.
