Hi All,

I'm after some seats to replace my fronts. What cheaper alternatives are there to race/sporty seats?? What have you guys used instead?

Mate just go down to your local jap parts importer. Most jap sports cars have good seats in them. RX7's, MX5, Integras, WRX, supras etc all donate very nice seats to the cause

Also look at your sports saloons like the Stagea, and chasers etc.

Stock will vary, so you may have to stay on the hunt for a while.

They are the same width but slightly longer. Not hard to do.

i put some autotechnica seats in my old sierra- i did the dodgy and mounted the universal rails directly to the stock rails. The holes line up perfectly, you may find that the shoulders of the seats stop the seatbelts from retracting. Id recommend the GTI seats, they look easy to get in/out of, bucket seats can be a pain

I recently put in some cheap autotechnica racing style seats the i got from repco. Cost 300 for the 2. ADR approved. Same bolt width just needed to drill two new holes for the drivers side in the existing rails. Only just in the car though.

fitted my gti mk3 seats this arvo.. took a couple of hours if that...

a little dicking around but all in all a pretty easy fit.

In a coily (as opposed to a wt/nt), you need to do a fair bit more to fit aftermarket seats. The rails are side mount type, not top mount, so you will need to muck about with the rails a bit more.

The inside rails sit 20-25mm higher then the outside ones also. I cut down the rails a bit so they are the same height and used 450mm long 50x75x5 angle bolted to the cut down factory rails to give me a surface to mount the seats to. I drilled the angle and used existing bolt holes in the coily seat rails and M8 HT bolts and the factory 7/16 UNF bolts. I needed to extend the seat belt clip bolt, - it is now a 1 1/2" 7/16 UNF, instead of the 3/4"? one.

For my Autotechnica Monza seats, I needed to add 2x 425mm long 50x8 flat bar running perpendicular to the angle rails and used the supplied M8 hardware to mount the seats to these bars and 2x M8 bolts per seat corner to attach the bars to my rails. The only reason I needed these additional bars was because the mounting centres were 390mm apart, and the factory rails are 385mm apart and I wanted the seat bolts to sit virtually on top of the uprights on my angle. I needed to notch the angle a bit as well.

These seats sit a bit higher up then the lower slung side mount coily seats (about 2"), but I also prefer this driving position in a 4x4. Another thing to mention is the factory rails appeared to be stronger then the rails (to suit patrol?) that I had supplied with the seats.

thought i better add to this post as ive just replaced the seats in the sierra.

A good mate gave me some leather seats from the back of a chrylsler voyager. they are bucket seats and were such an easy swap. All I had to do was oval the existing seat mounts to get the zook rails to bolt up. These are a very wide seat and have armrests that fold down . will post a pic later when i get some during daylight.

geez sounds a bit classy B4T..
i just installed some autotechnicas.. wont be as comfy as yours ill bet but they are a snug fit so no slopping sideways when i flop it on its side next time
