somewhere around almost closed, youll get a feel for whats working better and you might find in summer a bit open works and in winter a bit closed

Thanks again!
Did you have a look at the pic in the previous post to that one?
That wire that is broken - is that a load sensor wire? It makes no difference if it's connected or not?

its either the idle up or EGR, neither will come on idling with everything off and probably both stopped working years ago anyway

Hi,
I adjusted it to almost closed - it has no effect on the RPM - still idles very low and when warm runs fine.
The only difference is, when it's warm, it runs too fast - about 1100rpm, when I wind out the idle screw it has no effect anymore, the revs don't drop?
The flap is open when hot like it should be...
Oh - I reconnected that idle thing and look what happens!!

you want to make sure the flap is well and truly open when its warm
ok sounds like you need to adjust the cold idle, study the throttle linkage carefully, youll notice an adjuster screw that you cant possibly get a screwdriver on unless you hold the throttle open, thats the fast idle
so engine off, hold the throttle open and screw it in a bit, let the throttle off and start it up and see, keep fiddling till you get teh right cold speed (dont let it warm up though) and once right let it warm up and make sure the warm idle is ok (I dont really know why its idling fast now, might need to wind the flap out some)
the headlight thing is the idle up, most dont work now and turning the heater fan on will do the same thing, if you watch the front of the carb youll see the vacuum actuator that does it and the screw that adjusts that speed

Morning!
I have a problem - the car won't start!
The flap is closed and I backed the screw out and it stays totally closed?
I need the car for an appointment today - just my luck!
Any ideas?

dont pump it, it might be flooded, hold it flat to clear it

Ok - I got it started!
Remember the idle screw not having an effect?
Well it was backed out still, so I screwed it in and it started, very lumpy but running. I then screwed the choke thing IN and it moved the flap open a bit.
Now it's warm and running, I think I need to get it tuned or something?
It's always ran perfect, just this cold start problem of having to rev it until it warms up, then it runs like a dream all day and night...
