hey guys im in the process of swapp;ing my allow front diff to a steel one(vitara) and when i noticed my new steel diff (i bought a complete diff assembly from a wreckers) had a nipple on the housing that looked like a air hose one. sure enough i pulled it apart and it indeed seems to be an airlocker. booyahhhhhh!!!! the strange thing is though that where the nipple emerges from the housing, the housing has a lump there as if it had the nipple 9or something) there from factory, whats the go with this?

so im pretty excited to get a locker as a bonus with the diff. What else do i need to actually get it to work? a compressor i realise but im not sure how the rest of the system works. i dont want to get arb shyze if i dont have to just coz its too dear, i was thinking of getting a compressor and the gear and a rear locker from chinasoong, but im not quite sure yet.

cooinceidentally i just bought a little compressor off ebay for like 100 bucks that i was just gonna use for pumping up tyres, can i just use this for the system? or is it totally inappropriate? i dont really know much about air lockers, so any thoughts and advice are welcome

and if it truly is an air locker.. what a buy.

you could use that compressor but you would have to set it up with a pressure switch and a tank to hol the air at presure.

would be alot easier to just purchase the proper compressor

it's no airlocker... it's the air operated diff centre that the GV's use as they don't have any type of free wheeling hub.

oh dang now i feel like a loser haha, got excited for nothing. so what do i need to do with it? nothing? should i take it out or what?

i wasnt convinced at the start but with no pressure in it i could move bothj sides of the diff freely from eachother then we put a compressor on it and the appeared to me to be locked together, oh well.

also in a slightly not realted note, im putting manual locking hubs in too what do i do with the old air actuator lines? nothing? or do i need to block them off?

is the air line hole at the bottom of diff centre?

no, what is it going into?

if it's a Vitara you need to swap the diff gears over into the GV steel diff.

The hose fitting screws in from inside.
I removed it, and screwed a bolt in, with lock tite.
For some time, I justed put a short hose on it,
and plugged the end.

You do need to block it, or crud could get in.

yeh its going into a vitara, thanks yeh im aware i gotta swap all the gears over ive got them both open im doing it tomorrow. so i'll plug up the air hole, bolt is a good idea.
