I am installing a new radiator in my 94 SJ70 and wondering if I need to bleed the air out of the system when the new coolant goes in. If so, are there any special techniques to be used?

it should bleed it's self..... i think, i never had to bleed mine....

just fill it up with coolant (hopefully youve flushed all the old stuff out already) and turn the heater on and run it, I find it helps to hold the revs up at about 1500rpm so the water pump pushes coolant up to thermostat better

once the thermostat opens youll need to top it up again, watch the temp below the thermostat doesnt get too high you cant touch the manifold, letting it idle will hold the thermostat shut so the coolant doesnt flow

I usually fill it up, then run the motor and squeeze the hoses till no more bubbles come up.

thats what I do too - than as royce said, hold the rev's up until you see that water in the radiator drop (a good sign the thermostat has opened) top up replace radiator cap and drive for a few minutes, let cool and check levels.

Thanks guys! All good stuff. The new radiator goes in tomorrow if they deliver the right one this time.

if you're putting in a new rad make sure you put new hoses in too... they dont cost much and you'll have better piece of mind.
