How do you remove the dowels from the block when doing a 1600 conversion?

I've given it a good go but they are stuck in there pretty good.

Mine was stuck really good, I wouldnt recommend this way but I slowly drilled away at it until it was almost gone then I spilt it using a small chisel, be careful and you won't damage the block

Use a drill slightly larger than the inside of the dowel. Drill slow and it should grab it and spin it out.

Well then use the methods above but I hope you don't have to reuse the dowels.

What do you mean by dowel? The stud that's threaded in or the bush type thing that's pressed in?

use a heat gun/blow torch and heat up the area around it then use vicegrips/pliers

Squirt in a couple of applications of some CRC days/weeks before you want to pull them out with Vise-Grips.

Invest in a good quality set of vice grips and if it's still hard to get out ask a local mechince if he can do it for you are you planing on reusing the studs or getting new ones??

If Vise Grips don't work find an old bolt that JUST fits into the dowel.
Put a couple of spots of weld on the outer edge of the dowel where the it meets the bolt.
Turn the lot with a spanner.
If it won't turn, use a slide hammer on the bolt.

Maybe, maybe not.... I tend not to make assumptions like that..
Assumption is the mother of all fuckups. :wink:

Welding a bolt in would be an extreme case... Vise grips and hammer should pop it out.

They are really stuck in there. I think I'll get the old man to attack them with the welder.
