want to get the transfer case out of my sierra apart so can refurbish and install the 6.5 transfer gears. i have removed all the bolts holding the case togeter and also one of the 3 nuts that are on the shafts coming in and out of the box i think it was the shaft that goes to the rear axel.

My question being do i have to remove the other two nuts holding the other two shafts im guessing i do as the box comes apart only so far. my problem being i cant get the nuts to budge at all.

if that made any sense has anyone got advice?

The nut on the Input flange also has to come off to replace the Input shaft/gear. The front output flange only has to come off if you want to replace that bearing and seal, it's not necessary for replacing the gearset.

You also need to remove the speedo drive to get the rear shaft out.

you may need to heat up the nuts with an oxy if they are REALLY tight. Mine were really tight. took three people, two with breaker bars and one with an oxy to shift them.

Yeah mate I am just about to put mine back together, we used a heat gun (no oxy around) to warm it up. The flange nuts you are undoing often have crimp marks on either side of the nut locking it to the shaft, tapping these out will make it a bit easier. Having said that we had two guys hanging off it with a breaker bar on a 3 ft extension pipe while I stopped the workbench from falling over. All I can say it that they are tight!!
