I am new to auszookers, and after blowing up my 1 litre sierra motor, i decided it was time to upgrade. not get rid of the old zook, it has done me well over the last 12 or so years of hard off-roading. Currently the engine is in a few pieces, stripped it right back to start again. have already fitted swift gti seats and a few other things, and heavier suspension and shocks were fitted a few years ago.

if anyone has some ideas or tips on fitting the gti engine, let me know, im up for the easy way, but the right way. will post some pics of the zook in action before the donkey went poof!

cheers Jamie

too many revs (off the rev counter) trying to get off a beach. 27 years without touching it i think is a pretty good go. plus gearbox rebuilds were getting tiresome (10 minutes to have the gearbox out though!)

i have looked at the right angle dizzys and read many things about them, but some people say they dont work with the mark3 G13b engine, has anybody had sucess with the right angle drive on a mark 3? and is it true that a swb vitara fuel tank and pump work in a sierra?

ok, quite a few steps closer to finishing my rebuild, but need some more advice.
1. - what clutch, flywheel and starter motor do people use with the g13b transplant with the sierra 5 speed?
2. - i think a 110 amp alternator from a falcon is a bit overkill, going with a 85 amp alternator from another model ford/mitsubishi. any comments?
3. - still no luck with a radiator, might just go with the 1.3 litre sierra one, have people had sucess with this radiator?

more photos to come on the build.

cheers Jamie

1. sierra clutch, flywheel and starter motor
2. Do you think youll need more than stock? Are you going to be running spotties and other stuff?
3. I went the sierra radiator, keeps it exactly on a quater. Have driven in 34degrees, (41 sunday driving to melbourne!) I found a thermofan at upullit (dont know what it was off though) and it keeps it really cool- barely even comes on, just when Im sitting at traffic lights.

Any more questions feel free to ask!

thanks zookfun and jonno-racing. will have to buy sierra clutch.

got past the dizzy side of things, engine doesnt fit real good, so mounted the engine further forward, and still have room for swift dizzy cap. will get some photos when the engine goes back in. did you go for a heavy duty clutch?

got wreckers not far away who has some engines laying around, so will be able to get a flywheel easy. is the swift starter motor the same as the sierra one, or the 1 litre F10a starter the same as the 1.3 litre? does anyone know. cos i have 2 starters.

cheers

u will need..

1.3box,

sierra starter, fly, clutch

u should realy mount to motor where it should be, so you can use a standard jack shaft and your gear stick out of the hole!

jonno

had to mount the motor forward, cos mine is a 1 litre chassis. i lined up the gearbox to meet the hole in the tunnel, standard jack shaft fits, just means that the thermo fan will be on the front of the radiator. all the engine mounts and stuff are different, robbed the 1,3 litre mounts off a wreck, and custom made brackets on chassis.

have a 5 speed box, both in good nick, doing bearings and seals though while they are apart. going to get flywheel now... new clutch is ordered.

Nath, will try and get hold of a standard 1.3 litre radiator to fit, my 1 litre one is f#$ked. what size thermo fan you running? 15" or 12"

12" is all you need but be sure to get a good one, make sure it is a pushing not a sucking fan. most good ones you can turn the fan around.

lol, no

get the biggest you can fit and put it behind the radiator

if you need to buy a radiator consider a vitara one while your at it, much bigger

a 14" thermo fits a sierra rad like it is factory and the one on my swb is set
up as a sucking fan(due to the aircon stuff at the front of the rad) and it
keeps my 1.6 cool as even on 40deg days when i am towing a trailer.

which exedy clutch kit are people buying to suit the swift conversion? exedy make 2 heavy duty clutch kits, one to suit the g13b engine, the other to suit the G13a engine. the only difference i can see is the release bearing? any help?

BTW looking for a flywheel from a 1.3 litre engine. Does anyone have one to spare?

you need to get a flywheel and clutch that matches your gearbox, there are flat and stepped flywheels and 18 and 20 spline gearboxes, though not in all possible combinations

in that case have gear box with 20 tooth spline (22.4mm OD) so need flywheel to suit. both the clutch kits i looked at are for the 20 tooth spline, but suit different engines. maybe i will wait til i get the flywheel first.
thanks Royce!

royce is wright but i dunno what it is with the gearbox, i put a NT box in my old wt and it was idential spline so some might be a bit mixed!! but i know for this conversion u will need a 1.3 box ;)

I believe the WT was a G13BA.

Swift's had the G13B.

Early Jimny's came with a G13BB.

Not that I endorse this sort of thing....but if you were selling the zook, then some random ebay clutch would do the job, but if you are gonna keep it and use it, then you are better of making it as reliable as possible. Sometimes this means spending a little more coin.
