I'm in the process of rebuilding my transfer case, and have found a problem with the bearings.

They have this extra clip around the base of them as can be seen in the first photo. On the front output shaft, this clip stops the bearing from fully seating in it's bore, so the the gears don't mesh properly and the cetre housing won't fit on (second photo).



Can i just take these clips off, or are they there for a specific reason? (They are Koyo bearings from Locktup)

Assuming you mean bin, sweeet. Anyone have any idea why they would be there?

Those clips are vital and are there for a reason, they sit up flush against the housing stopping the shaft from moving in that direction.

For a start are you sure thats the output shaft, it looks like the input shaft to me, and if it is the input shaft, thats the wrong bearing. The bearing for that side of the input shaft is a 63/22 with no clip.

Whoops, my mistake, i meant the input shaft.
The 63/22 bearing is the one closest to you in the picture, and the 62/22 is the one up against the casing. The inner race diameters of each are different, and wouldn't fit the other way around.
But either way the 63/22 does have a clip in this kit, and it's preventing the bearing from fully seating into the rear housing aswell.
As far as i can see, the case already has clips there to ensure the shafts don't fall out.
Having removed the clips, the case fits together fine and there is no movement in the shafts, so i'm a little confused.
Have you used these bearings in a case before P.j?

If anyone's having a similair problem:
I've asked a few people and it turns out the clips are not needed in this case. They are only there because they are aftermaket bearings and may be used in a few different applications where the clip would be required.

I didn't/couldn't use them and 10'000 kms on, my Tcase is fine.

The bearings that came out also didn't have the clips.

Sweet, did you shim your case? If so do you know where to get them from other than lowrange offroad?

Umm I just followed the directions supplied...

There were a few shims in the kit if I recall correctly.

Yeah, the kits come with shims for the countershaft, but not for the input and output shafts. In those instructions it doesen't mention these shims, yet on the lowrange site they say it's important. My input shaft has a few mm of play in it so i figure i should fix it now with some shims.

those are just retaining clip, your transfer only requires a retaining clip on one bearing, the bearing you would have got are as follows

6306.NR x1 - needs retaining clip - 30mm bore
62/28 x3 - no retaining clip
63/22 x1 - no retaining clip
hk1212 - needle roller - has no clip.

removing the clip makes no difference to the operation of the bearing

Have you tried Suzuki Genuine Parts? Each shim comes in 3 thicknesses, 0.1mm, 0.3mm and 0.5mm.

I tried genuine suzuki today and they said it would take about 3weeks to get the shims from Japan, so na. Is it possible to just buy shim paper and cut it to size?
