Folks, I'm trying, with my limited knowledge of suzis to tune a 1.6l carby donk.

There was a very bad flat spot, got rid of that, cool as, pretty stoked, but when I took it for a tune up run, and got back, it diesels, bad.

Spoke to the owner, and that is normal.

Got some carb cleaner and run that thru it, used about half the can, took it for a run, alls well, yaaaa.

This only happened at full running temp.

Did a minor adjustment on the air/fuel mix, took her for another run, and when I turned her off, blasted diesels back.

Put in some 98, not sure of what was in it before, (owner is now in hospital) probably 91 crap, thats why I thought just a carbon deposit, and with the carb cleaner, and a 120kph run for 50k it shut down beautifully, but like I say, now its back after a 2nd run.

Ok, soooo ????

Any ideas.

i had this problem but for a while. I put a can of that subaru head cleaner through. i think it was that anyway, worked wonders for me.

Have you checked your timing? it may to to advanced. I read somewhere it can diesel because of that.

Yea got the flat spot out with a carb tune, timing, points, cap and rotor, these were shocking, leads tested fine.

In the good old days, now an then we would go out and flatten it, run her as hard as possible, especially the early V8s, but it helped all. This is a sort of sunday only to church type car, fuel is probably old as the hills, carbon build up in the head was my first guess, the cleaner did the trick first time, but after a second 120k run it was back.

does the vit carby have a fuel cut off solenoid?

also the plugs, if they are running too hot, they will cause it to diesel too.

pull the plugs out and inspect them, there was a good link posted in a thread on this about a year ago.

Plugs are fine, looks perfect.

Cut off solenoid, sorry, no idea, I hate the so very complicated asin carbs. I am only doing this for an old bloke who sadly has the big C, and its one thing after another. Poor ole bugger, spoke to me yesterday about getting it running sweet, last night he had a turn for the worst, an had an ambulance come pick him up, seems he has a few days left.

Maybe it needs an air leak test, and another clean out, with a WOT run. I can feel a 4wd sesh as WOT is a bit naughty nowdays on the open road.

I would like to get it running like silk before he goes away, so he can feel comfy knowing his wife has a car he can trust.

Air leak, mkay, will have a go, its an old car, as in, not very often used, so maybe things have dried and are now leaking.

when mine was doing that (running on) it was the fuel float level in the carby... basically the carby was a little worn and needed a refresh.

Yea, squirt carby cleaner down the throat, an major loss of revs, even from around 5,000, a squirt makes revs drop very fast. But, I hope im right, it cleans out carbon deposits within the chamber.

Alien, taa mate, cept, no way am I gunna open up a aisin carb, I seriously think they are over complicated to the point of shear stupidity.

Dun a run, got her up to operating temp, poured some more cleaner down the throat whilst she running, lots. Took her for a run, WOT in 3rd at 4,000, foot on the brake, held her there, temp gauge rose fast, kept her there, thinking, if its a carbon deposit, your outa here.

Slow run home, turned her off, perfect. Thats not to say that tomorrow she will not diesel, as she did second run.

Gunna try her, IF she misbehaves, some "start ya barsted" and do as Royce says.

Ole mate doesn't need his car anymore, he took off on his next adventure at 0930hrs today.

Would have liked to be able to tell him that his car is running sweet as for his wife, and to say fare well, but that didn't happen.

Life is a pretty fickle thing, 4 days ago when I picked up his car, he was looking forward to when the last lot of chemo had diminished its hold on him, and he could come with me down the sand hills and have a beer. I will take him down there in a few days and leave him there, stand on top of a dirty great big hill and pure out his ashes.
