Ok so I was on my way to school this morning and my engine just randomly turned off..
It started a few seconds later but died again almost instantly.. SO... I am assuming that due to the fact that it will no longer start.. It was some water in the fuel?
Idk why I cant start it anymore. I thought I was low on fuel but we put some more fuel in there and it still wont start... Any suggestions???

Fuel pump, accelerator pump and crap in the carby would all do that. Could be bad fuel but it definetly isn't the only option.

Welll fuel pump is brand new. And the carby got reconditioned about 3 odd weeks ago.

You could backfire it to try and clear the jets. Or drop the fuel out, clear the lines and try and start it.

How do I make it backfire if it doesn't actually kick over?

Check for spark at the plugs.

Swap plugs 2 and 3. All it has to do is fire a couple of times not start.
To go through a couple of tests do the following:
Pull the fuel inlet hose off the carby and try to start it. If fuel comes out at a steady flow, your fuel pump is good.
Put the hose back on the carby and take the hat off the carby. Accelerate the carby while looking down the throat. If you can see the fuel squirting down the throat your accelerator pump is good.
If all is still good, backfire it a couple of times. Put the plugs back and see if it will run.
If all of those do not work flush the fuel and put new stuff in there.

Nice simple test you should just carry out first, before you go on to the rest of it.

it can still still run with the plugs reversed, albeit extremely rough, although if its not working now i doubt it will while plugs are reversed... give it a couple of good revs like this. i dont see how it makes a difference, but i was told by local mechanic to swap the leads at the distributor rather than on the plugs... never asked why, could have been personal preference...

yes I know that it can run like that, two pistons will still be running right just the other two will be back firing. sickzuk1 said that it doesn't actually kick over so I was just stating that it didn't have to run

Does your starter motor kick over or do you mean it turns over but doesnt fire up?

Ok...
Just tested and when I turn key I DO have dash lights.
The tank is overly full, we thought thats what the problem was but it was ALOT fuller than we thought.
Ummm I just tested for sparking at the spark plugs.. And the car started perfectly first go.. And the engine is running like it always does...
So maybe it IS water? So overnight it had time to shift around etc and go back through the pipeline? Just a thought.

If it started when you tested for spark, I'll bet you have an ignition module problem. Sometimes the larger air gap that occurs when testing for spark is enough to kick a module back to life again. It might be ok again now, but it will die again.

No I mean I hadn't even taken anything off... I just tested the engine to see if it turned on before I started testing and it turned on fine.

I just drove it a bit away from the front door of the house and played with the revs for about 25 minutes and it is still running perfectly? Yet it only takes 6 or 7 minutes to drive to the place where it died twice?

so it still dies?
if so when it dies, then check for spark, if there is none and it comes back later its a heat thing, probably the ignition module

No it didn't die at all when it was just stationary and playing the revs. Nothing wrong with it at all. Did it for about 20 minutes with varying revs... I kind of tried to imitate the trip that it cuts out on. Yet no problem with it..

if when it dies it still has spark, I'd go with the fuel pump.

Ok well I just got back from schoolies and gave Suzy a bit of a run in the back yard. And it is running perfectly again??? So.... I am going to assume that this is the problem? How do I go about fixing it?

Have you put a cup of metho in the tank to get rid of water?
Maybe take the plugs off one at a time and clean/ check clearances with feeler guages.
Other than that check the fuel pump. Itmight not be getting enough pressure through under load.Mine does thes sometimes but then again my alternator is about to shit itself so there is nothing chargig the battery.
