I just bought a brand new HD clutch for my 92 Sierra as i am in the process of dropping in a G16A. The first time i started it, it sounded like i had a supercharger under the bonnet (i wish). The noise is coming from the clutch. I shut it down straight away. My cousin who was with me helping doing the install said it sounds like the thrust bearing. has anyone else had this issue with a brand new bearing fail, and the type of noise i described. I am just annoyed that i have to pull everything out again to fix it.

Is it a case of bearing failure, or something not installed correctly? Either way, its gonna have to come apart again...

X2. It should be pretty clear once you have the box out what is wrong. Also check the spigot bearing

i replaced the spigot bearing also. Just a little annoying to pull everything out again. Doing it all tomorrow on my day off, i would rather be driving than under my car

Does the clutch work??

Yes it works fine, i backed off the clutch adjustment until there was no sound but when you push the clutch pedal in the noise comes back. I have never hear of a thrust bearing having to be worn in so im pulling the engine out tomorrow and checking it. I have to replace the oring behind the water pump anyway (in the pipe that is under the inlet manifold)

Didn't the kit come with a new throw out??

turned out the squeel was the inspection plate touching very lightly, but on the really bad side, the brand new pressure plate was stuffed (i think). After pulling out the motor twice, the third time i just dropped the box and used the original pressure plate with the new clutch plate and a original flywheel, new spigot and thrust bearing. Very annoyed, the new HD clutch would not disengage, no matter what the adjustment was..... I am not 100% sure its the new pressure plate as i didnt like the machining that was done on my flywheel either so i didnt use it. The flywheel was machined on both surfaces, i believe too much as they were almost level with each other (the lower contact area and the mounting surface with the dowels).

Does anyone have an ideas why the clutch would not disengage. Its working now fine with the HD clutch plate, original pressure plate and original flywheel. I would like to use the new HD pressure plate but im unsure if it or the flywheel that was over machined is the fault. (im over pulling out engines and boxes this year)

Was the pressure plate "sports tuff" ??
