I went to a key cutter, to get a spare ignition key made, mine only came with one key when i bought it... but the guy took one look at the key and said he cant do it, its micro-chipped...

Do Zooks come with a Mirochip in the ignition key, and if so, when did they do this, and in what model and year ?

All i want is a spare key for my 2001 GV... would a locksmith be a better option ?

My local locksmith couldn't do it. Commodores, Ford and all others OK. Suzuki................it's something to do with whatever (microchip) that's in the key.

Your best bet if its a GV is a 28 ounce hammer. Best ever car entry device ever invented

Any GV after 2000 had the Microshipped keys mate.

I just managed to avoid it with my 99.

They just don't want to replace a $300 key if they fudge the cut.....

Even if they do cut it, you will need to get it programed to the ecu/immob

All non commercial cars have had transponder keys for the last decade or so. Most commercial would have them now too. You may not just need the key cut but also programmed to the cars computer with a diagnostic machine. Some that have an eprom chip can be copied in house, ie commodore. But most need the diagnostic machine plugged into the car and programmed in. If you had more than one other key they would need to be present at the same time as well because usually the original key information gets wiped in the process and then new ones get reprogrammed with the old ones.

Give Locksmith Supply Company (they are the distributors for AD100's, the diagnostic machines) a call in perth they will put you on a to a good locksmith that can do the job right. Its not as simple as some people think, dodgy locksmiths can easily fuck it up and will charge you for the wasted key.

Oh Bugger, thats not what i wanted to hear...
Does anybody know what the micro-chiped keys look like, as mine only has a small half circle bit of black plastic at the end, i wouldnt have thought it would be big enough for a chip, but there you go... the key also came with a small metal tag with a 4 digit number on it, dont know what that is for... maybe i should give Suzuki Aust an email, just to clarify this, and ask them how i can get a spare key made...

Suzuki should be able to program keys, for a chunk of cash. And the chips are small, the rfid chips are the size of a grain of rice..

If yours is the black key without the buttons on it there is no transponder. It has a seperate remote which can be purchased from suzistore same as my 99 gv. the 04 gv has the buttons on the key and a big S on the back not sure what year they changed them but must of been after 01 and before 04.

If you want me to get a pick of them both let me know.

I chased prices for a spare key on the 04 but it was around $300 so instead i told her not to loose them

I'm pretty sure this is mentioned in the owners book - got something to do with if you loose the key, you can quote suzuki the number on that metal tag and they can make up a new key for you

Yep its a small black bit with NO buttons, it has a separate remote for Immobiliser and central locking... hmmm ok, this is sounding better... yes please get a pic of them... ha ha.... i only have one key, so if i loose it, i am up shit creek, hence we wanting a spare... hopefully it will be cheaper for a non-transponder key...

Oh ok, had a quick look in the owners manual, could find anything about the key... that would be excellent if they could do that for me !

Edit : I found the bit about the ignition key, its right at the front, he he... mine is the standard ignition key, not the immobiliser key, so... can i just contact my local Suzuki dealer to get a another key, or should i contact Suzuki Aust ?

Yep, i think i will try the Local Locksmith first, just to see if he can and will cut me a spare, or tell me i need to get it from Suzuki...

a proper locksmith will be able to sort it, the kid at bunnings will be able to do it but i wouldn't let him cut a sandwich, let alone a key

Yeah i will go to a proper locksmith... i know what you mean thats if you can actually get one of them to help you...
