Managed to pick up factory sierra aircon off ebay last week.
Buy it now for $500.
Pricey but worth it in the missus' zook. It's not the sort of thing that pops up every day.

It doesn't take a lot of cool to knock the edge off the heat in such a small cabin.

Yep aircon works well in the hardtops. Not freeze-your-balls-off cold but more than enough to keep driver and passenger comfortable with windows up on a stinking hot day (so long as you can keep airflow up through the radiator).

i reckon the stock condenser is to small, my next one is going to be as big as the front of the car.

Will the stock setup/compressor etc be suitable with a larger condensor?
I want to whack aircon in my maruti as part of reinstalling the supercharger (share the belt)
so I've been tossing up the idea of using a falcon/toyota aircon compressor (pk6) and a mix of vitara etc parts to make up the remainder of the system, with a well sized condensor to suit the available grill space.
The custom size of hoses/brackets etc is sfa in the scale of things.
I don't know a great deal about air con as I've only ever refitted stock systems from a wreck into identical factory cars. So I don't know if my idea is practical?
