ive disconnected the battery while its running before too, we know cars run without a battery but what we want to know is will it START without a battery?

   8O

Clutch start.

Starter's don't run on plankton..

I think the mythbuster question is, if you do this clutch start, will the residual magnetism in the alternator coil be enough to produce a voltage for the ignition coil?

it would be a damn big hill to get it to spin the thing fast enough to excite

my mini with a generator can do it though, but its the same fault with teh reg that flattens the battery that lets me get away with it :)

wouldnt the residual magnetism in the rotor generate a small voltage in the stator, which will feed back into the rotor to generate a greater magnetic field and greater and greater and greater voltage out of the stator? So the smallest amount of residual magnetic flux/webbers will be enough to get the alternator producing a voltage. This is the same principal as pull start motors isnt it?

you think too much, go get an alternator and stick a meter on the back and spin that thing as hard as you can and see what happens

No - pull start motors use magneto ignitions - with permanent magnets.
