Ok so i have got the car running but i am having problems getting it to run right. it seems like its not running on all cylinders.the timing is right everything and i put a timing light on it and checked it and it is fine. its a got a really rough idle to it. it wouldent be the carby jets casue it wouldent starve of fuel on idle more at higher revs. its got me stumped of what it could be. any one got any ideas??

Why wouldn't it starve of fuel on idle? If its a 1.3L carby, then it won't be jetted for the extra chamber volume of the 1.6 bottom end.....

you definitely need to re-jet it. i did that with mine and it ran better, but then struggled to get enough air - in the end i went for a weber 32/36 which was way betterer. the manual choke saved me always fixing the wax one in the aisin carby too!
edit: oh yeah - my timing was also way different to factory setting... it was tuned more by feel than by a fancy flashy light, as it tended to ping a little or run rough otherwise. and mine was full 1.6 too now i think of it, not 1.3 head. Although i now run a jimny top end with 1.6 bottom end (using the jimny EFI but vitara injectors).

what the fuck are you lot on about? do you post for the sake of seeing what the button does?
he is talking about IDLE a lawnmower carby would be big enough
try adjusting the idle mixture in and out to see if it gets better and spray some carby cleaner around the intake gaskets, its the revs change you have a leak somewhere

Yes. Now I know what that button does
And I fuck off a carby motor as soon as possible. EFI was the way of the future in 1970. Fourty years on you fuckers still persist with fuel bowls and seats with needles in them or whatever

What Royce said, with a caby if the idle jets are buggered it will miss at idle, but run good past 2500 or so RPM.
Do you guys get PCV valves in the manifold like we do here? Replace it if you have one. Those have cause the same problem for me too many times to dismiss 'em. The will buck snort and idle for shit, then run decent if you can ever get the car moving enough to get the RPMS up.
Is it possible you got the timing belt one tooth off? It's easy to do. When I put the timing belt off a tooth (same swap you did with 1.3 head 1.6 block). It would idle for fuck, but really run good at high RPM. The engine was missing all the torque too. After I moved the cam one tooth it smoothed right out and ran great.
I use a straight edge now to check 'em now, before I button them up.
What you can also do is let it idle until it warms up. Maybe 15 minutes or so. Then turn the key off without touching the throttle. Let it cool, then pull the plugs and see what they look like. Dry and white=lean carby problem. Wet=spark problem. Tan means mixture good, valves off.
My first post here hope it helps, and ya don't scalp a bladdy yank for postin'

Ahh shit then.
Try dripping some fuel in while it sits at idle. (or did you do that too?) If it picks up then you now it is fuel, carb or vacuum leak. if it doent pick up, then it is a fire problem.

Had the same problem, however with 1.6 engine with modified cam, so got the weber put in with the correct jets, electric choke and cutout solenoid, now idles so quiet and smooth you can bearly tell the car is running. Went from idle at 1500 to 2000RPM and as rough as guts, to a smooth idle at 700. Get another carby put in and tuned.

All connected. DOnt you need the vacum advance connected to keep your timing correct as teh RPM climbs.

Yes, vacuum advance from the carb to distributor.
