You can double adaptors in electrical clips.
Some sensors have a double plug on them.

Where is the original temp sensor taken from?

i took the easy way out =P lol

i just swapped the guage for an IR gun... can just carry the gun in my recovery kit... but i just took readings on the gun compared to my guage and im within spec.

my "normal" temp is 90 degrees, my "hot" temp is 101 degrees.

i also pointed it at the pipes if the pipes are numbered front to back 1 - 4, number 1 at the first bend is 272*C, 2 is 270*C, 3 is 260*C and 4 is 270*C =)

I think im going to have a lot of fun with the gun... lol

haha yeah well its 38.5 outside (verified with IR gun, as everything from now on will be)... i cant be stuffed dealing with hot coolant and engines, cutting holes in the dash, wiring etc etc...

now that i know my "normal" and "hot" temps are fine im more comfortable with the stock gauge =) lol

got the gun from "auto-one" in balcatta - theyre having 20% off sale, so the gauge from them was cheap, and when it didnt fit and i went back i saw the guns behind the counter... problem solved =P

gun was $70.

yeah, sounds like $70 well spent and sounds like it will be well used lol...whether thats using it for the right job, well thats something different.

i got a mate who has a flat slim line gauge that he uses for his exhaust temp, only about 15mm high x 60mm long. im looking for something like this but for water temp.

good to see ya happy now.

to be honest the effort of putting a gauge in (and the chance of breaking the current sensor on the thermostat) isnt worth it...

once it cools down a touch i'll do another measure up so i know what temp each point on the factory gauge is, once i know roughly the position of the needle vs. real time temp it'll be fine.

best as i can figure - the reason the temps been going up since the EFI conversion would be that its now getting a true reading, wheras before the sender was probably stuffed.

you'll most likely find the flat slimline one is still an electric gauge, so won't be any more accurate than the one in the dash.

you'll find that 99.99% of all temp gauges are electric :?

Any vent at the back of the bonnet will not draw air out of the engine bay. At speed the windscreen actually causes an increase in pressure at this point thus won't help the problem.

If you do a lot of crawling just add electric fans, then at least you will have increase air flow through the engine bay.

yeah it is electric, it gives a digital read-out. but yeah most gauges are electronic, unless they are running by oil pressure or some kind of pressure to move the gauge needle.

what kind of range do u get with the gun?

-25 to 400C =)

the gauge i got was a mechanical gauge... uses mercury to push the needle.

ohhh... well i've used it up to 5m without any issue, but the sample size of the temperature is larger as you go further back, so you get more of an average than a point sample.

oh right, makes some sense. i recon it would be cool to have a camera that takes pics but showing thermal readings....i think its called a thermal imaging camera???

one more little thing alien that probably wont help you problem, but is there much clear space either side of the radiator? as in can the air travel around it rather than through it?

nope - i checked that out and theres stuff all space each side - the front grille is doing its job and directing the air to the rad.

i used the IR gun to take readings at different temps and what i thought was the engine getting hot was just it reaching 100 degrees. my "normal" temp is more like 90... so pretty much this whole thread was pointless =P haha

i also experimented offroad the other day and styed in 1st gear where usually i'd be in 2nd doing low revs - the extra engine speed meant the engine fan worked more and temps stayed lower offroad too (feels weird working it harder to cool it down, but works).

thermostat housing.

i've also done the front of the rad, top and bottom hoses.

i think front of rad was around 40-50*, top hose around 60 and bottom hose around 80. Bottom hose and thermo housing were almost identical temp.

thats why I said the coolant, would be interesting to see the difference, especially to the head and thermostat housing, heads usually run hotter than the coolant

in the interests of scientific research i got sunburnt today... using the IR gun on my sunburnt knee vs my thigh, theres a 3 degrees difference! This is also verified on my g/f's burnt legs...

so there you go - sunburnt skin is 3 degrees warmer than non-burnt skin =)
