Ultratune

Has anyone seen this?

I admit I get my mum's car serviced at Ultratune as it's still under warranty but I service my own GV (except for the complicated stuff)

Well, Ultratune's are all franchises, so they are only as good as the store owner and their employees...

I went to my local Ultratune after being recommended it by a mate who is a mechanic, and they always did a top job, and the service was absolutely fantastic...

i went to ultratune ONCE, key word there once. i wont be going back. got treated like a piss of crap even tho the owner was my auntys best friend.

they screwed with my clutch and my brakes, charged a fortune. only thing they did do was find an airleak and charged me a $750 for a replacement intake manifold

They charged me parts at cost... Thats it (and I saw the invoice from the supplier)....


So I bought them a carton of premium beer, and they've looked after me ever since...

5 litres oil at $3.50-4.00 a litre (bought in 205 lt drum)
oil filter at big trade discount $ 5 - 20.00

total at worst $ $40 in parts to them
apprentice 1st on 2nd year $ 5 - 7 hr . he takes 0.45hr and gets an arse kicking if it takes 1.5hrs to do your service so say $ 10-15 for the service
and heres the kicker.
sir your brakes need doing at $90 min for new pads plus machining
you have a worn bush in your panard rod and will need replacing and a new alignment $ 150.00
two new rear shocks fitted $250
now about 30 - 50 % of people think shit and book the car in to go back for the work

$250.00 profit and all their time and labour paid for and ultra tune is happy
if you think fuckit i'll do all that myself they lost nothing , its a numbers game
mechanics don't service your car to MAKE BIG money they service cars to find other things wrong with it that you then pay BIG money for

Took my Zook to Ultra-tune ONCE as well because I needed my pink-slip done. I said I just recently had a replacement 1.3L engine installed by some guy at his house & there was no warranty with it. So after a few months there was oil leaking from it & I asked if they could check it out & fix it. Instead they said OK we'll just degrease it, that may fix it - together with the pink slip it cost me $75- bloody can of degreaser is $2!

A month later still noticing leaks I took it to a real mechanic & I told them I want this leak fixed = cost me $400- because I had them put in new seals & fix the oil pan which was sealed with rubber silicon from the hardware shop!

At the end, I realized I would have been better off just putting in a 1.6L engine right from the beginning after my piston disintegrated. Which I did a couple of years later for more power!

this. i always take my daily car here (not sierra) because thats where my parents took their cars, and the only thing they've "found" on my car to fix was front brakes, but they really did need doing due to a bad wobble while braking at speed... if you guys have shitty owners and shitty mechanics working for them at your local ultratune, have a go at them, not the whole franchise...

Ben_sierra is right, they are a franchise so to say they are all hopeless shows total ignorance.

Fire4FX mate you need to learn a bit about cars then you can work on your own and not carry on like a girl when something goes wrong with your car. basicly they did you a favour by degreasing your engine and then giving you a RWC rather than charging you $400 at that time, oh and also the sump on a suzuki is actually fitted with silicone.

ultra tune stafford are crap, took 3 days to pull a fault code from my GV which I had already done using a paper clip and I had told them when I took it in, then they spent 2 days changing a crank angle sensor which I said that wasn't the fault but they wanted to check anyway. ended up costing me $240 for a fault code retrieval. then I had it towed to another mechanic.

So baily08 if you are such a guru why didn't you fix it yourself. A good mechanic is a good trouble shooter but often it can be a trial and error situation with the presenting problem mimicking a number of possible problems.

you really need to be doing ALL your sevice work if you have and intention of properly 4wding a car other wise your really going to be screwed when something simlpe goes wrong as it often tends to

you cant make a blanket statement about ultratune...each one will be different.
But the unlimited free cleans? if you doing a lot of mud stuff....that might be worth it alone!

it was all covered under warranty but the warranty company wouldn't cover trial and error testing, only the fix. ultra tune lead me to believe they could fix the ecu and immobilizer. in the end they said nothing we can do and please cough up $240 to release a car that's not running.
