Ok sorry if its mentioned else were, Ive just completed a marathon 9 hour front end rebuild, Bearings bushes brakes balljoints and associated bits and pieces( secrect code for cant be fu.....dd reading thorough a million post in search mode), in search of a thud noise and a wheel wobble, MUCH TO MY HAPPINESS ALL PROBLEMS ARE GONE, though at the moment I am a 2WD only vitara as the spings broke in the locking hubs.
Question: can you replace the springs, or rebuild the hubs( hope you guys get what Im talking bout)
If so where can I get the springs from?
Whats the procedure for replacing the hubs with aftermarket? $, modifications needed to fit?
PS , think It was CHOP, LWB vit greyish shovel on rook rack... YOU WERE JUST SPOTTED going into the AIRPORT, COOL RIDE BUDDY

you mean the big one? let me guess the bits come off the end and now you cant figure out whats going on
there are 2 springs, one that puts tension on the locking dog and another thats more like a circlip that holds it together
Cant explain how it goes, you either have the knack or not i'm afraid

Greg, I might have a few spare springs kicking around. Is it the larger or smaller spring?
The factory AISIN hubs are probably the best you can get.
Have a look at this link. http://www.off-road.com/offroad/article ... ?id=399668
:EDIT: I hope that link works... stupid slow mobile internets
You can rape the springs out of most of the AISIN Free Wheeling Hubs eg Toyota's & I think Mitsubishi & Izuzu etc.

Oh, its two springs in there? shit I though that they had snapped, it is rusted to buggery, the one that controlled the winding in and out of the lock mechanism........ I think, Shit didnt realise it was two springs!!
Im pretty sure either way royce that they are PHUKED, metal shouldnt be that rusty........

Yes you need a new spring. NOTE the way the pother on is fitted IF you have not removed it. they have a slot that the spring sits in inside the retainer where the one is broken Look before you leap my friend also ask before you cut.
Rusty springs and a wire brush on a bench grinder works better.

Just so you know, i priced a brand new set of Manual Hubs from ARB and they weren't that expensive... the dude at ARB Penrith quoted me 140 for the Pair. he even said he'd install them for me... i realise that its only 5 or 6 bolts to remove and replace them. but hey...

Thanks to Atari for the spring.
After searching the net for a few hours I came across this :
www.capeoutdoorsports.co.za/.../ Asian%20hubs%20%20Identification%20and%20rebuildin.pdf
Read it three times after some advice from ROYCE and now they are all back together and working like new.......
YIPEEE 4wd again!
