Probably not much good for you, but this is a Vitara master cylinder and booster fitted to a Sierra with Vitara discs on the front and original front discs on the rear. Brakes are good with 35's.

Thanks for the pic! I am sure that my booster is thicker than that, and the master cylinder is slightly different in it port config.

That looks like a J20 donk? Is the booster and MC off the same vehicle? Do you have any idea what the bore size of the MC is? On the one i have it's cast into the MC, but on the bottom where you cant see it

I think I recognise this and the nickname. Was it in tough truck years back?

I eventually got the heater tap off and trimmed a bit off the side of the battery tray, now the booster goes in no problems.

I will trim a little more from the battery tray before final installation so I can remove the wiring loom without having to take off the booster.

Another nice suprise is that my battery still fits. It's about bloody time I had a win

I've been away a few days and only got a chance to have a look at this again today.

Next up I had to relocate the heater tap as the bigger booster wont fit with it in it's stock location. I wanted to move it across but the drain for the ventilation system is right there. What I ended up doing is making a little bracket that sits it over the top of the vent drain. I think it's going to make it really tight in that area, i'll just have to see how much of pain it is to work on with the tap where it is now.

1.2mm gal marked and holes drilled. Then bent it up in the vice (panbrake please Santa )



I drilled a couple of holes in the firewall. These were a pain to drill because I had bugger all clearance. I went and got an angle drive thingy for my drill from Supercheap. $18 well spent, holes drilled without further issues even though the firewall in that location is double skinned. The holes have M6 nutserts in them. You can also see the vent drain sticking out of the firewall on the other side of that body seam, the tap will sit over the top of that.

Booster and master cylinder in place. I have yet to bleed the MC and attach the lines. That's a job for Sunday arvo.

I got the brakes bled up this afternoon

The lines were already done a couple of weeks ago when I discovered the MC was buggered. Today we bench bled the new MC and hooked up the lines and there was bugger all air in the system. A quick bleed of each caliper and it was done. The pedel feels very good, i'm keen to see how it feels on the road.

You're right, the booster assy. I have is a lot bigger than the Sierra one. Any idea what the bore of the master cylinder is on the one you have?

I'm also fitting the J20 booster and master. With the 2L brakes ofcoarse. Anyone know if the calipers are bigger? Or just the rotors?

the v6 calapers are bigger so i would think the j20 one are the same.

i have a v6 master cyl, on a sierra booster and 1.6 estate calapers and disks, and it will near on stand on its nose on 33s

Compared to the carby Vitara brake the SV calipers are massive... the ones on polar_bears coona look like they belong on a push bike.

Carby vit are the same size as sierra I believe.

So in assending order of size you have:

Sierra/ vitrara carby
Vitara LWB estate 1.6 (probably late model EFI SE416 SWB too)
SV420/ SV620
GV? Any bigger than the H20/J20 calipers? They still fit under a 16" rim, so I'm guessing not.....

NO idea mate, I think ther may have been a Jimny one on there, but I took it off today and put the J20 one on.

Gday, this may be a long shot but i'm trying to fit a 1993 vitara wagon G16b M/C into my sierra but the flanges are aren't matching on the pipes running into m/c. First is sorta like the sierra and the second is sorta what I need.

To be honest I assumed all my lines were the same and just fitted them up, I don't know if they were different or not.

FWIW i've had no problems running the Vit MC with the stock Sierra lines.

Yeah my vitara m/c looks a little different it bolts up to the booster on an angle. The flares must of been correct in your m/c for your sierra lines.
