I chucked a small tub of stop leak into the radiator to stop a slow leak through the thermostat gasket. Oily stuff and a heap of pellets.

Coolant now looks like shit after 24 hrs - frothy and oily, but the leak has stopped. Am I supposed to replace the coolant after using the stop leak, or do you just leave it as is?

most of them you have to do with just water in the radiator cause when they mix with coolant it blocks your radiator

Drain it out, that bars leak shit makes rubber go soft, I used some to stop a leak on a heater hose that was too big and within 2 weeks I had a rooted cap and stuffed top and bottom hoses

Im with Royce, drain it out, flush the whole system, with a radiator flush, replace the gasket and coat it with silastic on both sides, then add new coolant.

You use shit like that when out bush and there is absolutely no way you will get back without it, like as in leave the car or use shit.

Sorry to say, but that was a costly learning curve.

Doing the thermo gasket to start, lose a few 100ml of green, don't worry about that, just top it up with good clean rain water.

^^^ Good to know, seemed to work, but don't like the oily frothy looking juice in the radiator. $7 fix, not really reaming me... was just curious if it worked.

Got new hoses all round at the ready so maybe i'll just put em on now. Says nothing on the bottle apart from put it in with new coolant and a bit of self promoting blah blah. Coolant is 2 months old, that's new enough for me.

Me no like brown coolant, so i'll swap it out through the week.
