Rusty sockets

On the weekend I was working on a mates car and it started to rain, My sockets got a little bit wet and now rust spots are forming, Even on one's I havn't used before.

So what's the best way to clean up slightly rusty sockets / tools?

bit of wd40 and a green dish scrubber pad should clean em up

leave a smear of wd40 on em to help protect them, or use them on oily stuff more

With the floods all mine and my mates tools went under water

Seem to be okay still but.

my socket set and screwdriver set are all rusty as they went underwater with the jimny.

I am just about to clean up some extra tools that are down in the shed, they are just accumulated stuff hardly used and rusty, I have been meaning to try that CLR stuff. I will go now and get some and post the results.

if they're really rusty soak them over night in diesel. (crc/wd40/k9P would work ok too, but let soak)

+1! We ALWAYS wash our tools soaked in diso and in a bucket (working with human shit and all...) then just coat the crap out of them in WD. Never can have enough

EDIT: Another thought, if they are really bad just hit them with a wire brush too.

use the wire brush as a last resort a scourer/green dish washy deali is much better to start with. will do alot less damage

Sockets should be fine, i doubt hes gonna use the wire brush that hardcore he'll start taking the chrome off :lol:
