Just car and shannons were the only ones that would insure my zook.

Shannons insured it for limited use, third party, all mods listed for about $180.

This is true, but I know several people who have had claims paid out without even looking at the car, engineers certificates or anything else...

I don't know a single person who has had a claim refused based on the mods on their car...

its a really clean and looked after 94 softtop a lady has owned it for 5 years and is now selling it and because she was a bit sympathetic about it being my first car and not having much money im getting it for a steal

as for driving it stock - won't be a problem you just have to choose appropriate lines, which in your case is to take the easiest possible way every time until you build confidence.

getting it really cheap its a lady who has owned it for 5 years and it was her first car and she said it runs well and she just had it serviced aswell
im getting it really cheap because its going to be my first car and it was her first car so she wants it to go to a good person.
only thing is she lives in subiacco.
what should i look for like places for rust something that normally goes wrong e.t.c because i have no idea.

aswell i dont really have anybody i ca take other than my older brother if he wants to come but he has no idea about 4 wding i really neeed someone in the car that can show us what im doing right and wrong.

look under the plastic sill below the doors (you can just pull the plastic off), under the window frame, in the rear tray, and where the rear support bars meet the tray.

of course check underneath for any serious rust and dings/dents/leaks.

also, find some gravel/grass and lock the front hubs in and take it for a spin in 4wd to see if theres any bad sounds.

I'm in the same boat as well. had a couple of claims paid on modified cars as have mates. Have also got out of a claim against me because of mods and some stooge trying to rip me off

It's when said mods directly or indirectly cause the accident that you will have issues.

fair enough... subi does have some front verges etc you can drive on =P realistically though you can run it in 4wd hi range on the road in a straight line without any issues, however this wont help in hearing noises too much, cos turning the wheels is often where the fun happens.

Just try it on the side of the road, look for any oil leaks underneath the engine. Make sure it doesn't blow lots of smoke. Listen for any abnormal sounds + smells. Check the radiator water and make sure it isn't milky, glance over all the belts.

Look everywhere for rust

it wasnt thousands of dollars to engineer it, it was more like $1500 - and the engineer picked up things that we could improve on to make things stonger or more reliable. It also meant doing the lane change test which proved to him (and me) that it handled well. In my opinion it was money well spent to ensure a top quality job.

just because most police turn a blind eye to it doesnt mean its not unroadworthy in the eyes of the law, and doesnt mean one day something happens and you're in big trouble.

i was also making a point on worst case scenario of flaunting those laws, not saying anyone that does so is going to jail for doing it. again, an immature attitude to the detriment of others.

Monkey - a 2" body lift is legal so long as you dont increase the tyre size or raise the suspension =)

body lifts are legal mate, but only up to 2". I dont know the specifics on materials though, but im sure there'd be guidlelines that stop you using threadbar and pine blocks etc =)
