Hey,
I bought a new crank angle sensor for my 2000 baleno motor of a eBay trader.
Went to put it in and the car wont start, cranks but won't fire. Then I put the old one back in and its starts fine. The seller recons he won't replace it as it wasn't installed by a professional!
Anyway, does the computer need to reset or anything? Am i missing something?!
He said he has never had any fail.

Because I think the old one is playing up under heavy load etc. Apparently it is a common problem. Yep the fine print pretty much says that....

tell me though how do you adjust clearances for "a" its all well and good saying that the clearance required is 1mm but I've never seen a sensor of that design that was adjustable, just lube the o-ring and fit it and bolt it in.

if he had that clause on his webpage then he is well within his right to say that.

cant you just say it was fitted by a friend who is a qualified mechanic

clearance is probably the distance from the sensor that you pass the magnetic object when testing. see diagram

I understand that, it's all well and good if the clearance is in spec but if it's out then there would be no provisions for adjustments, that was my point.

Yea see where you coming from. The only way the sensor would be out of adjustment is if the senor housing itself was built to the wrong tolerances. Housing on the engine doesn't wear nor the pickups on the back of the cam.

ok, well took it out again to double check nothing was wrong, ie loose plug or something. So my factory one i noticed is magnetic, the one i bought has no magnitism(if that is the right word). ie its not magnetic. Surely this means its stuffed. But looks like im up the creek as i said to him i fitted it and its in the websites conditions.

Have you checked it by the instructions given above? Ie does it output any voltage when you pass steel over it? Sure its the right part number?

Yep part numbers match. Will check the voltage output tomorrow

The diagram above is for the CAMSHAFT SENSOR not the CRANK SHAFT SENSOR will the procedure still be the same?
