Did a service on the jimny today and was gonna quickly change the drivebelts but have come across a bit of dilemma of how ure spose to adjust/ remove the belt that runs the aircon and power steerin.

Its probaly something simple but me being on the soup all day doesnt help.

Any ideas?

there is a little tension pulley on there. smallest pulley on the belt.

has two nuts on it. loosen both of those and it will let the tension off.

should be able to work the rest out from there

wont be easy to get on and off still....
if you have trouble you can slowly turn over the engine using the bolt on the crank pulley and "roll" the new belts on.

10mm Alan key goes into the one with the bolt, swing off it(alan key)to get tension & do the nut up..

They like to be tight, lot's tight, or they WILL squeal like a squealy thing.

Ok, so I have just tightened both the belts on my Jimny. I found that an 8mm (not a 10mm) Allen Key was what fitted into the idler/tension pulley/wheel beside the resessed bolt, but I could only get it to tighten a little. I think this is because if you push the Allen Key in to far through the hole it fouls on the pulley mount behind.

Even if you bring the Allen Key out so it does not foul, it still does not allow enough movement to get the required tension.

The only solution I came up with was using a Tyre Lever against the top of the idler and a pipe bolt just above, using quite a lot of force to get tension. This has to be done carefully of course, so as to not damage the idler puller.

In regards to the alternator pulley, I had to do a similar thing and could only get enough tension using a tyre lever between the inside of the alternator and the mount above.

With both of these tensioned sufficiently, I have relieved the occasional squeak (from the alt belt) I get when its cold and allowed the AC pulley to turn properly even when wet.

The Suzuki tool is a 10mm, so if your useing an 8mm, yours is stamped wrong!!!!

I have cut down 4 10mm allen key's over the yr's to replace one's apprentice's have lost...

I ended up threading the nut! So took of all the fan and shrouding to get the nut off, eventually got it off and put a new bolt on. made it so much easier with all the fan and shrouding out of the way to tension the belts.

with my fat hands it makes it a shit load easier, plus its only like 6 bolts on the fan and 4 on the shrouding than bobs ya uncle
