Hi guys, i am almost to the stage with my suzi where i need to buy some new tyres, i currently have the standard suspension and tyres, but i am going for a two inch OME/supercheap auto shockie lift, and have cut all the seams out of the guards (fixed the rust in the sills and just kept cutting with the grinder ) As i am going to spend a lot of time on side slopes and mountain tracks im not keen to lift too high, so would like to avoid a body lift if at all possibe, so at the expense of half an inch of diff clearance would you go with 30s instead of 31s, or are 31s the better option

ah yeah guys sorry, im going to get gearing eventually, maybe 5.14:1s or 6.5s, havent decided yet, however i do have an early 1 litre transfer available to me as a stop-gap measure until i get around to the gears

driving a lot of cross slopes is irrelevant with 1/2" of tyre height vs. 1" of extra width (31x10.5 vs 30x9.5). diff clearance would be my priority personally, as would the slightly added width.

I'd also look at sinking some cash into some procomp series 52 rims, which come in a 15x7 -38mm. they'll have your tyres sticking well outside the guards and help a TON in keeping you upright.

yeah thanks alien, i was intending on getting some pretty serious offset wheels, and now looking at it i can see that the only real determining factor will probably be the price difference between the two sizes of tyre, which would probably be fairly small. where are procomp rims available from, any of the major tyre sellers?

Go 31's, but depending on what you drive be a bit careful of huge rim offsets - if you end up to wide you'll fall into the bottom of the ruts made by everyone else and you'll actually loose capability.

ha ha same down here fatzook, i will have to do some head scratching, and also i will have to get in touch with you to get one of your fuel tank guards.... i dont intend on flattening my fuel tank any time soon

It's just an interesting observation - its part of the reason I was more capable in some situations with 4" rims and 1.0 diffs than with WT diffs and offset rims, and its why the 13.5" Krawler cars with 4" BS 8" rims can outperform their overly wide tyres. It's all about minimising the distance between the inside of the tyres.

It's far from a rule, but it's worth considering.
