does anyone bother about getting a Engineers Certificate for there exo cage "roof rack" in qld ? if so who is the engineer to contact in seqld.

depends are u putting on a exo wwith a roof rack or just the rack.?
technically any mods done to a vechile that are not from the factory are deemed illegal. ie: roofrack, exo cages, barwork, stereo...

I don't know about qld but I was told in nsw exos don't require engineering. So I presume it covers ladder racks

its a full exo but i was told that if you tell them its a roof rack you can get away with it. just wanted to know if anyone bothers about engineering or just drive around hoping for the best!

Reword that as "Any mod done to a vehicle that do not comply with the relevant ADR's from the date of manufacture" and you might be a bit closer to the mark.

- Royce's mp3 player = perfectly legal.
- Those 2 inch aftermarket springs designed for your vehicle = replacement parts.
- Wheels/tyres of similar construction within the ADR's size constraints = legal.
- Exo cage that complies with the curvature and protrusion requirements = legal. It's just an aftermarket ladder storage rack, right?

A lot of it comes down to interpretation. I've seen an engineer turn away a client who wanted approval for his full 3" rollover protection in a track spec turbo mazda mx5 convertible.
"Why bother" said the engineer. "It's an owner certified accessory. Describe it as a style bar and no certification is neccessary".

If you look at the QT mods rule book, it mentions external roll cages and roof racks in the same section. as long as you fit into those guide lines you dont need a mod plate.

comply with ADR's is incorrect, for all we know a sierra with 31's could still comply with all the relevent ADR's but since nobody can afford the testing nor be able to use it to have approval for it its a waste of time

comply with the states modification laws is closer to teh mark

Either way, I'm stoked to find out that the plans I had for an exo are allowed and don't require a mod plate!

That is if I manage to get the thing inside all the parameters in that info, should be pretty easy though as I was planning to have it as close to the body as possible!

Oh and the increase in track width by 50mm over manufacturers maximum was pretty generous too I thought, especially since it's tyre centre to centre what's maximum sierra track width + 50mm?

Dont go too close to the body! Cos the body will move a bit and the cage may also.

Yar, that's all I was going to allow for, maybe 50mm or something, will cross that bridge when I come to it, not going to be for ages yet.
