could some one help direct me to a,how to replace head gasket step by step in vitara 1.6 carby g16a i believe . ijust cant find any thing without all the dribble and bitching.if there isnt one ,is there someone that could write a noob friendly list and put it in the tech.im shit on the computer it takes me hours searching and to work out abbreviations..the noob silly questions seem to be the best reading.things are always being reinvented,or new easier ways to the same old questions . it is your choice not to answer this message ..the only stupid question is the one u dont ask.i would like the expert older members to trace back and have a look at thier first ten questions. maybe a noob silly question page would be good..being new there prob is one already haha thanks for any help now or in the future shayne

Without being an asshole mate, if you have to ask, then it may not be the job for you. I know how to do it, but really suck at trying to explain things, sorry :oops: I completely understand that you won't learn until you do it. Perhaps one of the S.A boys might be able to spare some time and help you out for half a day :wink:

How would you go setting up the timing and valve clearances etc once it has been assembled again?? Are you going to get the head checked for straightness and cracks?

thanks rusho ,i was told to line up markings and every thing should go back.was going to try sprints $50 vrs and seek advise as i go.....the head looks new..was gonna have a little look.it runs fine ,ipresumed it was set fine..maybe better to take to mechanic..once i got the head of safely was going to ask your ?s....aparentlyit had new head put on but not retentioned when it was supposed to....it has new radiator as well,so i presume it has caused someone grief a couple of times..maybe its more than gasket ..what do u thinkgo for it or mechanic .the car owes me 750..washoping someone could maybe say somthing like as example start by removing radiator to get at timing cover .theresa tricky bolt so do soso..line up timing mark wich is on the soso....take off exhaust ect ect ect..but im listening thanks

what hes saying is true though a g16 a would probably be one of the easiest OHC (OverHead Cam) motors to do the head gasket on. in addition to checking the head for cracks and straightness, check the block also, but in my case the cracked block couldnt be seen til i stripped it.

If you dont have access to torque wrench and feeler gauge setup dont start cos you wont be able to finish it

but basically disconnect required vacuum and fuel lines and wiring, labelling CLEARLY (with photos would help too) (also helps to label where bolts come from also). remove timing belt setting it up properly (if you dont know how to do that without help you are way over your depth doing the headgasket without someone there to help and guide through), remove cam sprocket (like you were going to do the cam seal) remove exhaust manifold, remove rocker cover, crack all head bolts then undo in order (spiral type pattern). and lift head off, then on stands so that you dont damage valves, remove fuel pump (DONT lose the loose pushrod!) remove dizzy (note where it lines up because of the gearing to cam it will pull itself out of alignment when you take it out, remove intake manifold (can do with carby still attached but a PITA, or take carby off manifold first (remember to label everything you disconnect), loosen off all tappets so valves all are seated, send away to be faced and checked over, get it back with a VRS kit.

Have i scared you off doing it yet? or need i continue with the installation which is much more imperative that you get everything right, and is incredibly frustrating if you havent labelled everything, suggest that you do the waterpump and timing belt while you are in there (get the tensioner kit if it wasnt done last time with the belt or if there is any noise from the bearing) since its done a headgasket, I'd also change the thermostat (cheap insurance if its playing up)

Don't go cheap on the VRS kit, it will only end in tears....and you doing it again :lol: Go for an ACL brand, monotorque series set

the reason i was going cheap was to see if it fixed the prob,and yes u have scared the shit out of me.haha.how is spiral patern and what does pita mean.for someone a bit more cluey u have just made some clear instuctions how to re place head gasket..is there a way of renaming this post tittle tohow to replace head gasket,so its easy to find in search.how many hours approx for mechanic 5

PITA = Pain in the ass

Spiral Pattern. Undo the two middle bolts first, then undo them from the middle out if that makes sense. For argument sake there is 10 head bolts, undo them in this order :

8....7
4....3
1....2
5....6
9....10

thanks sorry for bieng a pita haha another question because the oil is milky how and when do u clean it when changing head gasket.i pulled the rocker cover off yesterday and sprayed it with diesel and oil mix wich im going through aphase of spraying on anything thats around.then i drained oil put back cover and topped up oil and good litre of deisel and ran for a while ....was that bad or good

Drain all the oil and once the gasket is replaced fill with a cheap crappy oil and run it around for a little while. Drain then refill with your choice of oil.
